Its safe to say that I now love driving the DSG in fully manual now the guys have shown me it cant be destroyed and will down gear itself at junctions

....Don't get lazy about letting it down gear itself though. Just 'Think Manual' and shift accordingly and don't over rev it if only because there's less power up there. I usually shift before 5,500 but I am a K03 car. Just go out and play - Be bold and experiment and you'll find your own favourite combinations and then it becomes fluid and natural and you'll never want another conventional manual box again. D is perfect for gentle cruising around town or traffic jam crawls. Whether just tootling or hooning, DSG rocks!  :notworthy:

Cheers Robin. Some really useful stuff there! Ive noticed what you mean about no power, so optimum shift is a must, but its so useful coming down to roundabouts and not having to worry as such

@ Alex:

Yes, it's very reassuring to know that the DSG box of tricks is looking after itself. I sometimes find that S-mode can be quite fun when negotiating big busy roundabouts with many junctions like in swinging Basingstoke (Ooops! never ever been there!) and Milton Keynes. There's a knack of popping from S through D to M gently but quick enough not to confuse the DSG brain.

You'll be wanting shift extensions soon!

Indeed. S is interesting. Does make it rev a little hard to the point when its not going any faster ive found though!

I already want shift extensions - Steve's carbon ones were nice. Have you got them in yours?

also off topic, can you not get GTI as the last 3 letters of a reg

i have done a search, as i wanted my initials  **-57-GTI
But i cant find a single reg with GTI on it

I isnt a valid numberplate letter.

It is however valid on NI plates, but not UK plates - therefore you wont find a UK plate with an I in it!

Correct

The main reason behind why it went D E F G H J - ie no I reg

Plus I think at the time they had considered reserving it for other use like Q

....Very useful indeed - I'm surprised VW didn't include one oem but judging by the one in the Mk5 GT I'm glad they didn't! It has no numerical values  :stupid:

It's main use is monitoring if any problems. For example, a boost leak, or slow response, or flutter because of a failing coilpack, etc.

If you get one in a steering wheel cowling be aware that it squeaks! Doesn't bother me overmuch but I'm strange about such things.
