Michelin Pilot Super Sport (235/35-19" 91Y) treadwear 300 Review

Well i'm getting a bit ahead of the game here but wanted to gather info about this tyre as i can see it be a preferred tyre for the Mk V GTI in the high end tyremarked.

As i have only gotten the tyres fittedmy review will come later, but as a tyre for everyday use with grip and mileage in mind it does look promising :happy2:

Right,
I have now had these tyres for app. 2 month and as for daily use i have not found any downsides, they are excellent in the rain not noisier than other tyres i have tried and they have been used at Knutstorp race track which is a very twisty and tyredemanding track. They have also been on a roadtrip to Inters and a evening session at Donnington in 28degrees heat.
At Knutstorp the temp. was app. 20 degrees and they performed well and was very predictable in their caracter with 35psi cold front and rear. half the day the rain poored down with my Autotech rear ARB sat to medium i had four incidents where i had RWD caracter on the car and on the fifth incident i made a mistake and lost it. These incidents are down to the stiffer rear ARB rather than the tyres.
On Donington i tried going 20psi front and 18psi rear, this was way to low and i went for 40psi front and 25psi rear hot, which gave some predictable slips and made me able to haul stripped BMW's and Clio cup cars in even in the turns.
As i'm no tyre expert here are som shots of the tyres after Donington and the high pressure runs.

I'm sticking with PS3s, I can't justify the extra cost and I'm not one for skimping on tyres either. A Golf just doesnt warrant tyres that we designed for 911 Turbos and 599 GTOs. I'm just about to replace my first full set of PS3s and whilst they've not out lasted the ContiSportContacts they replaced (Contis always seem to be hard and noisey), they are much much better tyres in every other respect.
A lot of forum waffle seems to suggest that the PSS is the replacement for the PS2 when in actual fact, the PS3 it the true successor. The PSS is a completely new, high-end tyre as the PS2 was too compromised trying to cater for GTIs and GTOs.
I'm not disputing that the PSS isn't a great tyre, all the reviews I've read suggest that they even better than the PS3, which means they must be good. For road driving though, the PS3 is more than adequate - wet grip it supposed to be massively improved over the PS2. Even Michelin state they are intended for sports car and high power saloons, so if they're good enough for an M3/M5 - it's good enough for me. For the track, I'd use something more focused and track specific i.e. the PS Cup.

I can't disagree with your point of view, just see the PSS as 2 tyres in one, i drove from Denmark to the UK, car was on display at Revo stand Inters and the day after i went to a track day at Donington, kept up with BMW's stripped for track use and went back to Denmark, that's the tyre the PSS is. We were 3 persons including luggage for the trip, that wouldn't have been possible if i had had to bring track day tyres and extra rims in the car.
The tyre is that confident inspiring that i didn't hold back at Donington at any time, the brakes was the ones to go first, smoking like h**l and leaving deposits all over the disc :surprised:
