Bilstein B16 on adjustable top mounts
« on: February 10, 2011, 03:50:40 pm »
Hi guys,

So I bought the bilstein b16 coilover kit wich I think is   but now I need some adjustable front top mounts to get some negative camber. The only ones I can buy in my country are KW's but I think they wont fit because KW's have an smaller spring on the clubsports.I see that Hurdy has some on his bilsteins but I cant find what brand they are  :ashamed:

Are there any other brands that will fit bilsteins?

Thank's

Bilstein are upside down designed (like AST, Ohlins) coilover the upper shaft is pretty bulky.

I was considering Ohlins Road and track coilover (since I find out that spring are not adustable for MKV platform) and I asked a company to design custom adjustable top mount for those coilover.
After some research they told me it wasn't possible as the upper shaft is too big and there is no room enought for adjustability.

It is possible with KW because their shaft is much thinner

AST make topmounts for use with other people's suspension. It's custom made to order, but very good stuff. You'd have to email/ring them.
Sideways yo!

What settings and ride heights are you at for the road. I am 335F, 320R (about to be 325R) and 4F, FR and in the process of experimenting. I do find the suspension a little crashy to be honest. I have yet to experiment with tyre pressures

I enquired about top mounts with my B14's but they soooo expensive I just didn't bother.

More stuff to fiddle with that I know nothing about.

Thats why I stuck to B14.

Alex has the solution though.

I looked at the ground controls when I have mine installed recently, just couldn't afford the $$$'s at the time.

Take a look at Alex's build thread.

I think he has some alongside TfsiMike.

H&R make two kinds of adjustable top mounts. One for 60 mm race springs
and one for the use with stock diameter springs (about 80 mm on top).
Keep care to get the correct mounts which match your springs !!!

To make things even more complicated there are older versions and since
late 2011 a newer one which is praised to be less noisy:

old:

new 2011:

The blue color will match blue Bilstein/Sachs/Driver Gear/VWR springs nicely,
but you won't see much of them.
