New Golf mk5 GTI, Bit Worried

Hi guys,

New car means new forum  ...

So i'll introduce myself officially in the newbie thread .

So to cut the story short, i went a viewed a Golf mk5 GTI on tuesday, and well fell in love, Link to car below.

Checked the car out and everything seemed in great conditon, just one minor curb, and the rear badge corrosion.

Test drive seemed great pulled lovley and stopped on the mark, no worries with that. Ive read about the diverter valve and am going to get VW to check to see if its been uprated.


However before test driving checked all the oil, water coolant levels etc and no problems there.


The only thing thats really now starting to worry me is, when i pulled the dipstick out to check the oil level, clean oil etc .. i remeber smelling a very slight scent of fuel on the dsipstick. I thought nothing of it at the time, and the car drove fine but after arriving home and just googling it, the results range from starting and turning off to quickly resulting in overfuelling right the way through to worn piston rings ..


Just wondering if any one could reassure me before i go to pick it up tuesday ???

Ive left a deposit but will walk away if there is something seriously wrong ?

The smell of fuel in the oil not enough to put you off?

But hey, I suppose if you need a new engine 4 months down the line it will be the perfect oppurtunity to stick in the better ED30 engine. Just put 2k aside for the engine plus labour  


If you want the car though, take it to somewhere else for a checkup, take a oil sample and get it sent off.

To provide a bit more info, when running stage 2+ you upgrade the pump to HPFP internals, if the seal starts to fail then petrol gets past the seal and ends up in the oil, not so good if the engine is running with watered down oil!!

I'm sure people could put up a list that would put off anyone off buying a MK5 GTI forever.... best get a pro's advice if you are worried...

Sounds like fuel pump to me too. You would want money off or car fixing foc if that's the case.
