They look amazing , I would LOVE a set of these on my car , I cant seem to find a set anywhere though , and I am never paying what VW want for a new one! One question , could A1 turn around a really horrible scuffed and wormed set of Monza IIs into ones that nice??

Easy chap.....! you want to see the condition of some of there wheels they have in. I see a set of alloys with a completely 'wrote off' edge' ripped/dented seriously messed up.

They have stripped it, heated it, put it on a jig to re-shape it and completely welded all the edge, smoothed it, coloured it < Looks like new. Mine were not in a bad way, but the edge had seen the odd curb or two lol they have done a fantasic job. USE THEM!! You wont go wrong!!

could they achieve this finish on 17" Monza 1's (think that is what I have on my '05 GTI, they are the std wheels that came with the car) or does it have to be monza II's to enable the diamond cutting? Cheers John

Ring up and ask. They should be able to do it on most rims.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

No probs, they can diamond cut most edges. Front the looks of there equipment, don't think there is much the can't do.....but as advised give Nigel or Gavin a call.

I spoke to A1 just after I bought my GTI which came with 17 monzas on it.THey said that they cannot do the black inserts on the 17's, and don't think they do the diamond cutting on them either as the 17" alloys are different in shape around the edges.

As for prices guys just phone Nigel or Gavin at A1 and they will look after you.

As previously pointed out DO NOT judge them by the look of the shop.

A1 get the thumbs up from me. Never judge a book by its cover.

Could they arrange a courier to deliver your wheels down to them then back when they are finished? Or is that easy to do yourself - the reason I ask is that I am on the hunt for a set of these now and would like them done by A1 as I prefer to use places that have a good rep via word of mouth (or keyboard in this case!)

Do they test the wheels for cracks etc, post all this manipulation, welding and heating?

....I've heard that they send them down to Yeovil for testing on the helicopters

But joking apart, I guess that heating and welding alloy can be potentially very detrimental?

Yes it can produce porosity.  Also you need to know the correct mat spec when welding, bending and manipulation produces work hardened material, which can subsequently crack and fail.

Its no secret on here but I did use them (back in 2007) and they did go wrong.

I would never, ever use them again, nor would I ever recommend them  :fighting:

Hi mate,
Not sure if A1 can sort a courier out, if you want, if they cannot do this, then I have no problem having them sent to me and I will take them to A1, as they are only down the road, and I will get them couriered back to you, Shouldn't be more than £20 each way if you put the wheels as pairs. :happy2:

Do a search. There's a thread where it's explained in more detail.
