How much would you pay for petrol? --Survey--
« on: February 13, 2011, 04:35:03 pm »
Recently I have had to limit my non essential excursions on the road because of high fuel costs.

Things are tough for me personally but then that is because I work for myself and Dec/Jan are always quiet in the creative industry.

If fuel prices keep getting higher and higher in the coming months I will seriously have to consider trading in my beloved black GTI and replacing her with a Golf GT TDI or something similar. Quite a shame considering I have only recently acquired my Mk5 Golf.

I just wanted to know how far peoples wallets would stretch before they played into the governments hands and started running smaller engines?

its difficult to say what i would pay. i think if fuel prices go to the likes of 1.70+/litre then  i would consider the swap to a diesel.  and then it would have to be a pretty impressive diesel to make me swap because im not a huge fan of the power delivery on diesels.

the only ones ive found that i liked were BMWs.  I wouldnt drive any less though.  if i want to go somewhere ill go. i cycle to work anyway so its not a huge issue for me, and i only travel around 500 miles/month at the most

i have an .:R32 to play in and a diesel defender for mile munching

i guess it costs what it costs but not much you can do about it really, i dont necessarily think its the fuel type you should be looking at but more of the engine size and consumption

I won't let the barsturds grind me down so I don't take much notice of the fuel costs.

I'm not giving up a performance car which sounds good that easily and I hate the sound of diseasals unless on a truck or similar.

Quality of miles before quantity of miles!

I don't register the price per litre displayed on the pump, I just fill up 26 litres at a time because anything over 25 counts as a V-Power tankful and maximises the pay back from Shell later. I always pay by card and continue driving.

Yes, I am very lucky in that I don't work and therefore commute and I don't have a mortgage or wifey to support  :pomppomp: :jumpmove: :pomppomp:

^^^I didn't know that. There's me with my 50litres refuelling.

EDIT: RR have you received fuel vouchers this month? When do they tend to arrive?

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

....I received mine in December for January and February. So I'll expect some more vouchers in early March. I tend not to remember exactly when such things happen - I'm very 'here and now' about everything and don't plan much for the future either as I might not make it. I've survived well so far.

id love to click the i don't care link, but everyone has they're price. As i said, it would have to be a monumental increase in fuel price paired with me doing high mileage to make me swap.

the only cars id consider would be a 123d or 330d, 335d because they are immense when mapped

....Yeah, I think BMW deffo offer the best diesels currently out there but having owned a petrol straight-six Beemer it would still break my heart.
