Tornado Red owners , which wax?
« on: February 13, 2011, 06:28:59 pm »
Hi people

As topic , which wax do you reccomend for a Red GTI? Ive been using Megs Gold Class liquid on my previous car , which was a 10 yr old Blue Fabia , but it is now finished. Im thinkof of Colli 476 or 915 , and Dodo Juice Hard Candy? Are there any others I should be thinking of , Colli 845 liquid maybe?

Thanks in advance.

Ive just looked at that , do you have to apply it with your hands? Ive never done that before.

+1 for concours. It's better to apply waxes with applicators for thin even coverage.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Just use a normal applicator mate.  :happy2: meguiars #7 first then concours is

I'm not big on detailing, I handwash when she's dirty and if the weather allows. Once a year I clay bar with Meg's Quik Clay and Zaino wax with a Meg's sponge applicator: 3 coats and overnight (in garage) between coats. I'll keep off small marks such as bird poo etc on a zap-it-when-I-see-it basis with Meg's Speed Detailer. Tried Dodo Juice but gave it away to a good friend as I didn't like its slightly gunky consistency.

Saint Steve probably has the cleanest shiniest Tornado Red one on here. Dunno what he uses.

I've used quite a few on mine and the thing that had the biggest impact was Lusso revitalising creme (see image) I followed that up with the Lusso wax which is good, but doesn't last. I now use the revitalising creme followed by collinite 845. I've also used collinite 915 and in all honesty they were no different in appearance but the 815 is easier and quicker to apply and has superb beading/sheeting qualities.
Spend 30 pound and get the lusso creme and coly845. You'll not be disappointed.

^^^what that shows is what's already known - wax adds very little to the finish of the paintwork. It's down to prep work. You could have one of Dalton's £10k waxes, but unless the paintwork has been sorted, it'll still look crap.

Ideally, wash, clay, dry, polish, glaze/cleanse, seal/wax.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Autoglym's Hd Wax, for me gives the easiest shine for quick/good results.

Recommend using Mequires Claying kit for £25 and then using Dodo's lime prime . That will give you a good starter. Then more you do, the better it will become over time.

Here are some pics of Vics concours wax on red.....clean and beading  :happy2:

This wax is lasting well, as the car is washed at least twice every day its used (2-3 days a week!)
:ashamed: doesnt always get a 2bm wash either!

I'm not the most avid detailer by a long shot which is why I use collinite 476 as it lasts ages between applications and really gives depth to tornado red.  I've used it my wife's old met silver car and her new met blue car and the visual results aren't nearly as good as they are with red.  Obviously the protection is just the same.  1 ~£18 tin has lasted for nearly two years and doing two cars so its fantastic value.

I imagine others will give you a slightly better look but I doubt there are many products that will protect for as long as the collinite.

I should say I haven't tried anything else to compare it with other than some turtlewax ...

x2 for Collinite 476. What is the Vics concours wax like for durability in comparison to 476?
