Build date and registration date don't necessarily need to match. Especially if the car wasn't registered right away.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Oh right, ok. That kind of makes sense. It's just that it's always usually a 54 or 05 plate if you do come across a Laser Blue GTI! This one confused me a little.  :happy2:

Looks more like Deep Blue Pearl same as the R32 to me...  :happy2:

There are quite a few imports around this age knocking about, place up in Wigan (Ron Hodgson cars iirc) sold a few and i actually went to view one as the colour really suits the GTi in the flesh imo, fact it was an import put me off in the end but very nice and rare colour nonetheless

Here's a link to a DBP one that a guy from uk-mkivs bought a while back

That car is an import, you can tell straight away by looking at the seats, we in the uk never got the option of full electric seats we just got the electric lumber.

Its quite possibly the European continent got continued colours unlike us?

Yeah definitely an import that one and all the Deep Blue Pearl GTi's knocking about will be i'd imagine, was just a regular colour option on the continent which is a shame as they look great in the flesh imo  :happy2:

Laser Blue and Deep Blue Pearl are similar colours but two different colours. The DBP is the R32 colour, my understanding is that they discontinued the LB because it was too similar to the DBP.

You do get LB GTI's here that are not imports, you just don't see them that often as they stopped making them a year or so after the mk5 GTI came out, so quite rare.

Quite often see early mk5's (not GTI) in LB though, very nice colour.

.
I wouldn't be overly concerned about a GTI imported from Europe but I'd avoid those which were parked out in the deserts of the Middle East!

I would want to be satisfied about the detailed history of any car registered later than its build date.

Yeah i knew the difference between DBP and LB as i originally had a deposit on an LB GTi back in '05 when i bought my original one but the deal fell through and i ended up with a Tornado red one instead

Just pointing out that the one in the link looks more like DBP as there are quite a few imported ones of that age around and iirc the continent had LB dropped shortly after we in the UK did, as i say i nearly bought an identical car to the one in your link in oct 08 but was put off with it being an import and ended up with another Tornado red

I guess you like your Tornado Red golfs, a very special colour isn't it... has the ability to turn a slight shade of pink after a number of years...    :P

(Only joking!)
