Mk5 GTI advice, rough estimate
« on: February 17, 2011, 01:44:31 pm »
I have seen this being sold at my local franchise dealer and was hoping if you could give me some advice, like is this a good price, what should I be looking to offer and what could I get away with?

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201106379509237/sort/priceasc/usedcars/maximum-age/up_to_4_years_old/price-to/14000/fuel-type/petrol/model/golf/make/volkswagen/page/1/keywords/gti/postcode/bt69dx/radius/100?logcode=p

I did test drive a 3 door 2007 ed30 with 39,000 miles on the clock and that was being sold for £12,995. Sadly it's been sold but was from the same dealer. Wondering why they are selling the 5 door gti at over £13,000?

Thanks

Others will be around soon with exact details, but my thoughts are, it is heavily overpriced for not a lot of spec !

17's  Dont do it ! everyone says they are great for the road  then changes them to 18's within 6 months !

Thanks for that.  :happy2: Not too worried about the styling as the default is great for me. Love it. Just would like to get  good price as I have a mortgage to pay off. Any smart gti specific haggling tips?

My own opinion would be to offer £12,000 and go no higher. Actually £11,000 plus a timing belt change, but I don't think teh dealer will go for that. lol

OOOOPS !

Forgot to say, it is of course your choice.

But to give you an example, we bought our GTI a year ago, 2006 56  18's, leather, DSG, Folding mirrors and 36000 for a lot cheaper than that . This was cheap as the last owner did not look after it ! But I knew I would soon put her right and now she is mint !!!!!

Just got to know what spec you want and hold out ! The right one will come !

Keep checking in the Sale section aswell as their are some beautiful GTI's going for low money as people circumstances change !

Plus anybody who is on this forum has a real passion and love for the GTI so more often than not, those cars will be better examples !

Does seem expensive, it does have the 18" Monza II's though, heated seats, headlight washers....I think that means it has a Lux Pack

You can see it has the diamond cut faced alloys in the pics, also on the interior pic you can see the heated seat roller switches and under the headlights it has the cut outs where the washers pop out of the bumper! :happy2:

It's a bit of a copy and paste job isn't it. Standard content. Bit of an error about the 3 door. There was no image for 5 days and I totally ignored the ad until I saw that it was a 5 dorr, which is what I want. Thanks again. I will hopefully go a for a test drive. I know it's going to be good, but I like torturing myself. Maybe I could just test drive gti's until I save up the cash lol
