Nah! I preferred the Shimano transmissions to Campagnolo. Campag didn't move with the advances in technology, or rather not until they lost huge market share. Shimano's combined brake and gearshifters were only one area they pioneered. It's a bit like DSG/S-tronic versus conventional floor stick.

 :indifferent:

I don't see where it mentioned anything about Campag being best.  All i did was share the retro bike I own with you.

It is not a contest.  I also own a bike with a full Shimano Groupset on, it is very good, as is the campag.

....Sorreee. I mistakenly thought that your "THE very best" comment applied to more than just the frame builder. No sweat, and thanks for sharing  :happy2:

As you know, there was naturally great rivalry between Campag and Shimano riders at the time.

Last time I looked and in the words of the wise Texan "It's not about the Bike"

....Very true. And you could apply the same to cars.  :happy2:  It feels good to have a fast bike/car though.

I've just ordered myself a Wilier Petacchi

My first ever full carbon framed road bike, I'm looking forward to getting it

The analogy of being the footballer with gold boots springs to mind.  No hiding on that!  Lovely looking bike Mark, best sort the legs out to make it go as fast as it looks!

Yeah I have to start doing some serious riding now, really got into my road riding though. The wife has entered herself into the Stratford tri, I'm doing the Stratford half marathon again instead!!

Some nice bikes on here

I would reccommend looking at the big 3, specialized, trek & giant. They all offer good value and it's then down to rider preference. Giant frames are sized weird so make sure you try before you buy. Don't write off boardmans available at ahem...halfords, they offer really good vfm and win a lot of bike tests in road cycling mags.

Im trying to up my road cycling this year, did lands end to john o groats over 7 days last September & my backside still recovering!

Felt and Focus both get an excellent write-up. Wiggle sell both.

Eg

I currently have a Focus Variado, it's a great starter bike, carbon forks, 105 group set, bought off wiggle about 2 years ago for about £600, don't think they are that cheap anymore! Felt too are great bikes.
