SPS Switch and engine warning light?
« on: March 03, 2011, 09:21:25 pm »
Hi guys,

Just wondered if I can use my SPS Plus switch to read and possibly reset error codes? Specifically I have an engine warning light, but no apparent running problems.  Any ideas?

Car is stage 2+ and running some slight tweak VIA the SPS. I've now switched to the stock 'performance' map as thought perhaps it is fuel/cat related? Car does smell a little 'petroley'

Cheers
Matt

I don't think so Matt, it's certainly not a documented feature.

Are you running an aftermarket fuel pump?

I'd check your engine oil for excess fuel.

Well I wouldn't suggest a mad panic just yet but as you say you can smell fuel in the car and you have a CEL then it may be low rail pressure and a failed seal in the fuel pump.  Is it internals or APR?

Simple check is to rub the oil from the dipstick in your fingertips, smell it for fuel and feel it's viscosity.

You definately can't read or reset error codes with an SPS+

I'd follow Stu's advice and get someone nearby with VCDS to check.

I see you mention Stattlers i know Hurdy uses them and he has VCDS

I own Hurdys old car mate :)

Pretty sure its internals - supplied by Stattlers so makes sense going there.

Can only smell fuel outside the car, not in. Obviously needs checking anyway!!

Thanks chaps.

What exhaust are you running sports cat de cat or standard?? I have a de-cat and it stinks really fumey, makes a massive difference over having the cat in the system.

So much better now and made a massive torque figure of 365 lbs/ft.

I was a little worried, but glad it looks like Eddie is still going well :happy2:

It's ok mate, dont worry. She gets the proper care and attention that's required!!

Feels much better so I guess the plugs have been on their way since not long after you sold her to me. You remember when we chatted about how I was losing out to supposedly slower cars?

Amazing difference now... smooth and silky. Made 355 bhp on Steve's dyno along with the 365 lbs/ft. I was happy to see it pull that I can tell you.

Unfortunately, now slightly wining under deceleration, but I'll get that looked at shortly along with suspension Mods!!

Hope you're well mate.

Matt
