2.0 TDI has rather good economy and power to match it. Mate of mine has the GT170 2.0TDI and gets 45mpg stuck in traffic! I hate him for his economy  :signLOL:

Best thing it do is go and drive them both. I drove a 170TSI DSG before looking into GTIs and thought it felt really gutless.

Get the 1.4TSi(160) they remap to the same levels of power as the new TSI(180) .

Ive driven the manual one and it had quite alot of torque, but it doesnt stand up to the GTI for guts.

it has alot of torque for about 1500 revs then theres nothing.  I felt the same about the TDI170.  and in the wet it lit its wheels up far to easily.  smoother power delivery is the way forward

Based on the cost of fuel I'd be considering the tdi option

I struggle to get the wheels to spin in my mapped PD140. Usually only when coming off a roundabout in the wet.

Car also pulls really well from about 1500rpm right through to redline so although the power band is not as wide as a petrol it is still very useable. DSG helps a lot aswell :driver:

.  I'd put my remapped gttdi 170 against any standard gti 200 brake like for like
