tried my luck on the rusty front arches but was told, vw will not repair under warrenty unless there is a hole where the rust has came through from the inside, then they blamed it on my car being too low and my tyres scraping the arches!!!! nevermind. booked in to the local bodyshop to get them done, £350 for both arches.

....I had the same response: We'd like to help but VW UK won't buy it as they'll say that unless actual rust it's a paint issue and only has a 3-year warranty. Rust is a body issue and has a 12-year warranty but their get-out card is that we've modified our wheel arches and/or got aftermarket suspension.

Useful to know that your repair quote is similar to mine of £388 incl vat and everything. A 3-4 day job to do it properly they said and explained the detail to me. Makes carbon wings more attractive.

.
I suppose that because this thread is 12 pages, folks don't bother to read it through  :stupid:

All the info is already posted: The 'recall' or 'product enhancement' (not 'enlargement'!) involves simply removing each coilpack to check its component number and hence date/revision and to replace any older than the most recent version free of charge.

If after some are renewed you feel an improvement in performance it will probably be only due to your old coilpacks having deteriorated.

....It does at first until you read a break down. The wretched +20% vat doesn't help! :fighting: I don't think it's right to charge vat on labour or services but only on physical product.

Had four coil packs replaced on my 06reg gti today at horsham volkswagen done while I waited, two very nice edition 30's in the carpark one white, one grey both with private plates. Big thanks to everyone for publicizing this problem.

On another note for anyone with a service plan I overheard a conversation whilst there, a guy had gone 5000 miles over a service interval and volkswagen refused to authorize the service under the plan. Now I know we are all enthusiasts and we are all likely to go to the other extreme and get our cars serviced earlier! :innocent: But it could happen to anyone so be warned.

That's the problem with service plans - you have to stick to the T&Cs.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Hi
Garage only 2 miles from my house but I purposely went for a drive after reading on here how people said their cars felt better, and I must say it definately did  What I am interested in is to find out if it improves the slightly lumpy idle from cold or whether thats just a characteristic of the car?

....My VW dealer told me that new coilpacks should improve a lumpy idle. Sorry, I forgot to add this info when I posted earlier.

But again, it all depends on the condition of your previous coilpacks.

If you look at the top of this page redrobin discusses this very problem.  :happy2:
