Mine went in today for oil service and coilpack replacement as agreed (05 reg.)

They went as far as taking the engine cover off before discovering they didn't have any and that they are on back order from VW. :stupid:

They'll let me know when stock comes in.

Apparently I need "front suspension console bushes," as mine are split. I don't know the English translation of that, but apparently they will cost me £267 to replace!!

I had two of my coilpacks replaced at my VW dealer today as expected. They were the car's 05 original ones. Car seems smoother but didn't feel rough before, if that makes sense.

I learnt today that my dealer has an in-house meeting every day at which the Parts Manager is present, to discuss the jobs booked for the following few days and parts are got in anticipation of possibly being needed. Hence my VW dealer had 4 coilpacks ready and waiting in case my car needed all four. As they said, it's just common sense and helps keep customers happy.

well after seeing this thread last nite and going to my local vw today, i will be gettin the coilpacks replaced mines a 2006 55plate, tried my luck on the rusty front arches but was told, vw will not repair under warrenty unless there is a hole where the rust has came through from the inside, then they blamed it on my car being too low and my tyres scraping the arches!!!! nevermind. booked in to the local bodyshop to get them done, £350 for both arches.

anyway thanks for the thread  :happy2:

I sent a query along with my reg number (2006 56 plate) to VW UK asking if my coil pack would need replaced.

The reply back stated " we have spoken to our Technical Department and they have informed us that there is a
recall outstanding for this vehicle to have
the coil packs inspected"

So not an automatic replacment by the sound of it.
What will they be inspecting for?

They have to check if it runs the affected coil packs (there are only a handful of revisions affected)

VCDS Scanning/Coding, RNS and MDI retrofits, and specialist mechanics services with VAGtek available - Just PM me for details.

Had the coil packs swapped over yesterday by the dealer. After Steve posted that his car felt more eager, I thought ye ye   But I was surprised that mine felt better on the drive home. So maybe it isn't all in the mind Steve,  :happy2:

They seem to be a VAG weakness , I had to do them on my Fabia and that only had about 40K on the clock , the price was similar as your quote too!

I suppose that because this thread is 12 pages, folks don't bother to read it through  :stupid:

All the info is already posted: The 'recall' or 'product enhancement' (not 'enlargement'!) involves simply removing each coilpack to check its component number and hence date/revision and to replace any older than the most recent version free of charge.

If after some are renewed you feel an improvement in performance it will probably be only due to your old coilpacks having deteriorated.

I think its £180 for the bush and approx 1 hour fitting at a performance garage which is approx £55.

You may as well get the front bush done as well I.e a superpro or the like.

The cheaper option is the superpro(I think) ALK insert only which fits in the old console which is about £100.

So for about the same as VW parts you can have better handling!
