I just wanted to quickly say that my GT FSi is having issues at the moment, which could be down to coil pack failure. After a lot of searching (and a kind, helpful member on here) I called my local VW about this "re-call" and I was told my car is on a list to be checked, and if there is a problem, I would get them replaced FOC. I am calling them today to get it booked it for this FOC check.

I believe the recall was for Mk5, pre 07 (mines a 54 plate).

I just called my  VW dealers and as soon as I mentioned the recall she said that if my car was affected then I would have a letter from VW confirming that it needed doing.
Has anyone else heard this, and has anyone received a letter either?

VW send letters further down the recall process. Its for those that havent visited a VW dealer in a certain period of time.

VCDS Scanning/Coding, RNS and MDI retrofits, and specialist mechanics services with VAGtek available - Just PM me for details.

There won't be a letter as this is not a full recall. It is something that would flagup on the system if you took your car to a dealer.

Call again and hope you get another person or try a different dealer. The ref is: 28F5-W-Ignition Coil.

I bet no one on this 26 page recall thread HAVE! Your dealer is lazy and unhelpful. When I called they didnt think there was a recall but said hold on whilst I check....5 mins later mind you, she came back and confirmed the recall. Go elsewhere. Makes my piss boil (sorry).

Good thinking that, cheers.
I have not used a VW garage for a good 8 years due to this kind of pi$$ poor service, (parts shop on the other hand are great as long as I speak to one of the regular staff)
Seems all the garage care about is the sale, and overpriced services, once that is done they don't give a damn.
Will call them again tomorrow and see where I get then.

Failing that, where is the closest VW garage to Wolverhampton apart from the one near to A1 wheels?!

Doubt it's the closest but the dealer at bridgenorth is the best I've found  :happy2:

Well had to wait for an hour, but the dealer put the plugs in for free in the end  :jumpmove: they also printed me off a nice bit of paper to show the work was done and I had 4 new coils so all in all very happy helped myself to a coffee and a read of VW Driver magazine while I was waiting

Now the plugs were a grade cooler iridium ones bought off Carl so that obviously could have made a massive difference but the car feels brilliant incredibly eager to pull and on the sedate journey round the M25 last night was getting better mpg really enjoying the car at the moment bit of TLC is making it drive incredibly nicely  :driver:

patrick i dropped my car off at 9 to get a call around 10:30 to say they replaced the coilpack but as i was also booked in for a service i left it late in the day to pick my car up. quite quick tbh as i believe its a pain in the arse to actually get to the coilpacks??

I had a waiting appointment at the Camberley VW garage took them about an hour but I got them to change the plugs while they were in, so 45 minutes if the car goes straight in to the workshop.  The pain is removing the engine cover after that its a really easy job.

Useful thread; I've just booked mine into the dealer to get done. As it's a 56 plater, I no longer go to the dealer by default so would never have heard of this recall...

Hi,

My first time on this i have an 06 GTI, thanks for the info on the product enhancement, or as we all call it a recall. Booked mine in with Windruch Maidenhead they were very helpful and new all about it. My engine management light came on the other day, then went off the day after, wonder if that was to do with the coil pack.
