Any one keep their precious GTI outdoors
« on: February 22, 2011, 01:53:10 pm »
I was wondering how many people here keep their lovely outside, mainly because they probably don't have a garage. And any advice on this to keep it looking ship shape and surviving the elements, especialy frost.

lots and lots of wax

mine was in storage, but for the most part it lives outside as my 1970's garage does fit the car but i would have to climb out the sunroof to park it in there

I don't have a garage, so mine is parked on the drive.

I don't have anything to protect it. Although I will be giving it a detail next month once the weather is better which should help to protect it.

Yep mine is parked on the street outside my house, as is my next door neighbours mk5 gti and a few doors down there's a mk1 gti parked on the street. Never had a problem and don't do anything in particular  :happy2:

Mine is parked on the drive too, no garage at my home, wasn't as into cars when bought the house, but really wish  I had one now.
Next house it's a must, but I know  I will just throw a MK1 in there instead and never keep the MK5 out of the cold.
Would love to have one esp over the winter, hate scraping off ice at 6am.

When at home it's garaged but when working  it's out side. Had bad snow & frost all winter but as above regular washing & plenty of Autoglym & it still looks mint.

as VC said if i did use it i would struggle to get out or would have to carpet the walls fully to protect doors

I wouldn't leave mine on the street if I had a choice.

Must admit i live in a good post code area & in the 10 years i've lived there never had any bother with cars left on the drive's/streets etc BUT mine is still garaged every night i'm not working. Great in winter when you can just drive straight off & it is safer.
