Brake filth (part deux) Fitted pics.
« on: February 25, 2009, 09:55:39 am »
Well, after the farce with the custom APs I was on the hunt for new stoppers. I was either going for the VWR kit or the new AP 6pots off the Scirocco race cars (but in road spec)...

Then I got the curve ball of being offered JonnyC's wheels, so I looked at Alcons again and did some research. So, I could afford both and I've got exactly what I wanted. Turinis and sticky tyres and some serious stopping power.

Getting fitted on Friday, then they'll be bedded in on Sunday's Woodhead/Snake pass Curry Gumball.. so hopefully a final end to months of messing about and running around on knackered pads!

Got them from Regal, there was a bit of faffing around with getting them due to some delays over bells but they've kindly thrown in some rear braided hoses to sweeten it up... plus they were miles cheaper than any of the other suppliers.

hee hee.

They've got their first 'real' outing at Club GTi's track day at Curborough in April, so I'll give a full review then.

Anything is going to feel better than my cooked crap at the minute, so I can't really give a good impression of their power straight away. But if someone on (good) 312mms want to do a brake test for stopping distance comparisons, that'd be cool, let me know.

I'm sure as hell not eating them, so I had to find a use for the can  :happy2:

I propose that all brake threads have them in from now on.

very nice tony, like the design that doesnt have fully drilled holes or large grooves. just half U shapes,
hopefully keeps the integrity of the disc to prevent cracking?

Yeah, the half moons have been their version of grooved for a while, much less chance of cracking as you say.

AP have moved to this design now too, so there must be something in it?

I have been assured and assured they bolt straight on, plus there's plenty of clearance behind the Speedlines too.

Can't be bothered painting them red, I'll just match up the R32/S3 rears when I lay my hands on some instead. I just want them on and smashing my face into the windscreen like yesterday.

Yes, we need to get a brew and have a good listen to your 'zorst too. I'll work out a crude, non scientific test plan - something involving a sprayed line and a trundle wheel maybe?
