Just spoke to Direct Line To get a cost on going to stage 1 custom code. I mentioned that my filter and Dump Valve would be changed, then they came back to me saying that I would not be covered by them anymore because i've got a dump valve..........Told them its a standard Mk5 GTI had it from new and I've done nothing to it yet. They Wern't happy and insisted I wasnt going to be insured by them, I was bloody mad couldn't get it accross to them that it was a standard Mk5 GTI. Anyway after half hour argueing that they wont be insuring any MK5 GTI again they conceded only because I had it from new and was insured by them for the past 5 years........Anyway went back to JBS they said its a diveter valve, not dump valve lol my mistake lol ...... phoned the stealers VW they have never heard of a diverter valve, its put me right off, and Direct Line have said if I just have the chip coded and airfilter it would hike my premium up another £250 a year I currently pay £438 with full no claims

It is a diverter valve, the VW guys are clearly a muppet, and the rev d unit is a supersede of the previous diaphram type so you wont need to register it as a MOD.  The new D type are know as shut-off valves in ETKA as well.  Plenty of threads with the part number just quote it too them saves the part monkey being a tool!

Some VW dealers are such muppets! :fighting: But not all, fortunately.

I used to insure via DirectLine and they don't have a clue - They tried to up my insurance because I got an extra set of OEM wheels (Monza's).

Try Greenlight - They know what various car parts are and specialise in modified cars. I can't guarantee they'll insure you because of other factors such as postcode and your age etc but they are worth a call - 01277 263 030. Tony is a member here and I think they offer a forum discount. Hope this helps  :happy2:

Knowing quite alot about the Insurance trade and loss adjusters/assessors .
How would they know it had or hadn't been done if you had a claim? I have never seen an assessor or loss adjuster with any computer equipment to check for remaps etc............a change of the dv would not be noticeable if it was a vw item. a forge one...thats different. Keep your car looking standard is the way forward. :happy2: Read into that what you wish :innocent:

An aftermarket filter might incur a premium load. The diverter valve is simply the revised model. It's not aftermarket, and if replaced by VW it would have been replaced by the latest one. Hence wouldn't have mentioned it.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

....No, the way forward is to modify your car to suit you and to declare all your mods. My Forge DV is on my declared list of mods to my insurer Greenlight and presents absolutely no problem nor extra cost whatsoever.

As for insurers and their agents never checking for remaps as you claim, that is utter rubbish - I know of more than one professional tuner who has been approached, one to do so on a regular basis.

Your post is encouraging people reading it to be dishonest regarding insurance and that is why I have adopted a sharp tone with you. It is not in anyone's best interests to hoodwink insurers no matter how much we resent paying them. In fact it can in the worst cases get people into very serious trouble indeed.

Direct line sound like tossers to me, but I can't help but think you kinda shot yourself in the foot when you said 'dump valve' to them, it sets the 'high risk boyracer category' warning alarms off on their system and they run a mile. Tossers.

....Exactly. It says a lot about someone if they likes dump valves. Rightly or wrongly, it's an established stereotype.

RR . You read too much into my post. I am not encouraging dishonesty by any means. One must declare all mods . A car involved in an accident will only be examined further if it looks modified , otherwise all will be examined. Keep the car standard

....My apologies if I misinterpreted your post - Easily done by us all occasionally  :ashamed:

If there is a loss of life in an accident/incident doesn't an investigation go deeper? Or if an insurance claim is particularly high?

The GTI is great left standard but soooo much greater when sensibly modified, in my opinion but each to their own  :happy2:

Replacing an OEM diverter valve is, in my opinion, not a modification.

Yes, a piston-type valve (such as revision d) performs better than a diaphragm-type valve, but it's not a shiny Forge aftermarket part, is it...?  It's OEM.

Some VW dealers are sh1t, revision D part number is 06H 145 710 D.  Price ~£50.

Do it - I'm standard, and even I noticed more whooshes, pops and seemingly more consistent boost. Or it might be a placebo effect.
