Advice on retrofitting Cruise Control
« on: February 24, 2011, 07:36:39 pm »
Evening all,

The more I drive my Golf the more I miss not having the cruise control I had on my previous car (a Mondeo, don't ask).  I've seen that I can get the kit off eBay for somewhere around the £60-70 mark.  I'm just wondering how easy it is to fit, and will I need anything else?  Obviously I know it will have to be coded in, but I only have the basic trip computer (showing dist, mpg, time, etc), and at the mo no money to upgrade it.  Can I still fit cruise control?

Yes you can fit it if you just have the basic computer.
You will need the stalk at the  very least, and that will need fitting and coded to the car.
You may also need a controller (like the ones I have for sale  )

Spoke to the dealers, who were not much help.  Told me that it can be retrofitted, which I already knew, but couldn't give a price.  Then he said it was 2-3 hours labour!

Think I'm gonna phone around a couple of other dealers/garages and see what price I can get.
