Edition 30 power
« on: March 17, 2011, 09:42:07 am »
Just a quick question regarding the edition 30. Why can it produce so much more power than the STD gti when mapped? Is it purely down to the upgraded turbo? Cheers

Ha thanks. When I was initially looking for a gti I didn't know the edition 30 was so different. If I hadve known I probably would have gone for one. Oh well I'm happy with my standard gti even though I'm a little jealous of ed30s with 350hp!

Not cheap to get up to those power levels though. To be honest, for road use 240bhp (presuming you get yours remapped) is plenty.

:signLOL: It is easy to get carried away. NO doubt that 350bhp will be ver very rapid, but I imagine it being a bit of a handful unless you spend the same amount of money again on the handling.

That's why I hope to go Stage 1 remap, then uprate the brakes and suspension before going Stage2... 280bhp must be ample and pushing limits of the brakes on a ed30 anyways!

Happy with the 230 horses on my Eddy as my V12 Vantage has 510bhp through the rears and is very lively indeed as and when you can actually put your foot all the way to the floor!!  :driver:
VW Golf Edition 30, Candy White, 3dr Manual. Plus a stunning Aston Martin V12 Vantage!

Like it  :signLOL:

GTI – 200ps/197bhp/147kw/280nm

Edition 30 – 230ps/226bhp/169kw/300nm

Pirelli – 230ps/226bhp/169kw/300nm

Differences between the Volkswagen Golf GTI Engine and the Volkswagen Golf Edition 30 and Pirelli Engine.

Larger Turbo from S3 (K04) rather then the K03 on the GTI
87°C thermostat instead of 80°C
Larger capacity fuel injectors (13% higher flow)
Larger intercooler (smaller then the S3)
Engine block main bearing caps, pedestals are reinforced
Conrods have larger rod bolts and new bearings
Pistons have 21mm gudgeon pins instead of 19mm
Piston top ring is improved
Recirculation Valve (blow off valve) not located on turbo
The Audi S3 and the Edition 30/Pirelli/Seat Leon Cupra R share the same short block, same turbo and similar intercooler.

Bye Bye Edition 30.
