The GTI isn't renowned nor bought for its mpg. On average you get around 320 miles depending kn driving style. 45x7=315 miles. You'd do better if all of those miles were motorway at steady 60mph. Look up on how to hypermile.

In all honesty you could have remapped a gt tdi and got more power as well as good mpg.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I can think of a perfectly easy way to remove all thoughts of doubt; merely think about the fact that you no longer have to drive a diesel Vectra! :happy2:

I had one (remapped GT TDI) before I got my GTI and the handling and driving experience wasn't a patch on the GTI, The soot burner felt very nose heavy and the handling didn't sparkle, felt very blunt, but LOADS torque. Good for motorway driving but otherwise give me the GTI anyday! The GTI has poise, balance and excellent feel, the GT TDI was a sledgehammer by comparison, so I just ignore the cost and enjoy - Drove back from La Plagne on Saturday, 870 miles one way, averaged 28mpg -= stage 2+ but was doing between 100 and 120 on the French motorways, so that was painful in fuel cost :(

I'm doing about 70-80 miles a day, 5 days a week and have been for the last three years and have just hit 105k on the odometer.  When I fill up these days I very rarely pay any attention to the cost, otherwise I think I might think twice.  Trouble is, I love the car too much to get rid... well that and new cars cost a (not so) small fortune these days.

By driving carefully (or like a boring old fart, take your pick) I can usually manage about 350-400 miles from a tank, which means that I can "get by" only filling up once a week...

Hi all, well after my first week I have spent £100 pound worth of fuel... :scared: I do about 45 miles per day. On my last car vectra 1.9TDI I spent £70 every 2 weeks so its quite a jump! I was just wondering how you guys/gals afford the fuel every week?? Does anyone do these type of miles? Is there anyway to reduce this cost? Thanks a lot

£100 should be over 500 miles of driving.... so I think you've been out enjoying your new car!  :driver:

Thanks for the input folks, I did not trade the Vectra in as wouldnt have gotten much for it so I still have use of it, I am going to use it for the long commute and use the GTI for playtime!  :happy2:
