Really?! Thats a concern then, I tried to get over 30mpg last time I came back down the a38 from derby to Walsall and I had to sit at 55ish! I've only put v power in since last July so I no it's not using duff fuel. I'll be having my 6th yr service soon so I can see if that improves things at all. My daily commute in traffic over 16 miles each way sees me get up to 26mpg so I would have hoped to have been around 35 on the open road. I just put it down to the turbo pulling my pants down sucking all the fuel away!  :booty:

the computer trip displays arent famed for their accuracy.  Theres loads of guys on briskoda in the diesels who geek it up with mpg chasing.
they use speadsheets with miles covered and actual fuel used to get the accurate mpg :chicken:.  they all reckon the trip display is normally quite far out.

There must be about 6 mpg threads going on there at anyone time

Will cruise control improve my MPG on a motorway run? Anyone tried a little test?  :P

I used my cruise for the first time last week, set at 75 I got up to 28.2mpg over the 90 miles or so I was on the motorway. Not great but an improvement on the 26mpg I got on my last trip to Newcastle just on the right foot.
It became a personal goal not to brake and strategically overtake slower cars but I soon lost that game! :fighting:

That doesnt sound right , ive had over 39MPG for a slow run up the A1 and I dont have cruise , even if i give it a bit of beans i return mid 30s. I had a 1.4 (8v) Skoda Fabia before the GTI and that was only ablout 5 mpg better than the Golf , with none of the joy you get from driving a GTI - to me those 5 mpg or so less are a tiny price to pay for so much fun!

I find it to be pretty accurate.  After 260 miles i still had over half a tank left and a range of 250 miles.  That's 510 in total and I'm in no doubt if i'd carried on at the same speed it would break 500 miles

Oh dear, I can honestly say I've not topped 330 miles out of a tank which is now topping £70 to fill it.  :stupid:
Could this be down to it having a hard time off previous owners do you rekon? It's only just covered 58k and seems to run smoothly most drives.

I commute about 55 miles per day to work, am getting about 31-32mpg average and it's a mix of town, motorway (steady 80mph cruise) and A-road...

I get around 350 miles per tank...

 :booty:

I managed around 330 miles max per tank.

You should be getting 40+mpg if you stay at 60mph for a while.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

I was watching the news today, Tories are meant to be bringing in a mechanism to help control fuel prices... we will see on that one though. My mate in Dubai says it costs £10 to fill up a 3 litre V6, not sure how accurate his maths are but it may not be far off.

Rather strange one last night for me.. Filled the old girl up with some more motion lotion and noticed that V Power was 131.9 a litre. Thing is, it was 134.9 on saturday  . What is strange though, it only seems to be the V Power that has come down  , as there was normally a 8p gap between normal unleaded and V power, it's now 5p!!! Suggesting that the normal unleaded has stayed the same and they have dropped the price on the good stuff...
A mistake maybe? Or do we think that Shell have decided that V Power has creeped up to a level where a lot of users aren't bothering anymore and just sticking in the poison?

....Similarly to you, when I nursed my car the 90 miles to JKM recently I stayed in D-mode and kept the revs under 3k and my display read 33 mpg. Whereas I was pleased to see a mpg value I very rarely achieve, I was a bit bored.... Well, a lot bored!

I only take a passing interest in my fuel consumption as it's not going to stop my driving enjoyment. It's not the travelling from A to B which is enjoyable but how you enjoy the journey inbetween.

....I love that "motion lotion" term  :happy2: :notworthy: - I shall be using it!

I wish that the fuel retailers would standardise their pump prices globally in the UK. I can pay anything from 132 to 145 a litre of V-Power motion lotion on the same long journey. The retail price should be networked from midnight on a daily basis - Surely the technology exists to do that.
