Brake pressure swith fault???
« on: February 28, 2011, 08:37:04 pm »
Had my southbend dxd drag clutch with smf fitted today, I have come home with a brake pressure (esp) fault maybe a coincidence maybe not but has anyone else had to have this fault looked at? Seems a common fault along with all the bullsh*t £1500 fix that vw always offer. Any light or previous experience would be great. Thanks. Stevie.

Thanks bud. Looks like its the same fault, never recorded the info but guessing it will be the same. Def seems to be electrical and quite an easy job for a auto electrician i think just an utter pain in the dick that today never went 100% smoothly. Any recalls that i can brass my case and get it replaced? Stupid sensors!!

Aye strange that they have been in monkeying around in my gearbox and then straight away this lights up. Need to look into it bit more but doesnt look a cheap fix.

Thrust sensor is remote on Mk5/A3 platform, it used to plug into one of the ports on the master cylinder on a mk4 and was a £30 fix, they're now using a master cylinder which looks more like The one on an Audi 80!! Must have had some left over in a crate.....

Cant believe you're into a new ABS Block for this..... everything since 2003 or so had ESP so maybe something similar might work.

Whats really annoying is the thrust sensor only logs a value from 0-4, last time we were diagnosing a problem as soon as you even thought about pressing the pedal it went straight to 4, so we changed it out and the next one did it as well, so we changed it for a brand new one from the stealers and that did it as well!!

So it doesnt do a right lot

As it says electrical fault in circuit and they've been in and around there doing your clutch I'd be looking at the wiring first.

ESP Needs to know if you're braking or not so it senses pressure in the brake line with a thrust sensor. It used to be a screw in module that screwed directly into the master cylinder, newer ESP probably now needs to sense you jumping on the pedal downstream of the ABS block.

In brief if you had a 8N S3 its a £30 quid problem in your 8P S3 basically you're screwed amd into an ABS block....unless its a wire off or broken

The electrical fault is how they present themselves when knackered.

I'd take it to an indy first though mate, the dealers might just give you the "how unlucky are you" speech instead of plugging the thing back in

did you use vagcom to find that out?

The tech used vagcom strach, had a quick glance at the screen and sure it was same as fault readings above.

Cheers for the reply dave, its going back in next week. Typed it into google search and there is more than one company  taking this module apart and rewiring this fault. Early days just glad its still driving. Still praying for the £30 fix. Stevie.
