DSG & Launch-control
« on: February 25, 2009, 09:47:28 pm »
I've just read in a post by Robin that his DSG equipped car doesn't have launch control. If this has been covered I apologise, but I was under the impression that it was a standard feature of European spec cars? I take it that this isn't the case?
Only 250.1bhp - but with that noise, who cares?

....

Apparently LC is only on early Mk5 R32's and later Mk5 GTI's. I've no idea about Ed30's but think most have LC.

My GTI is a 06-build, 05-plate.

Here's a very amusing vid showing Launch Control (seen previously by many people) : -

Ah so! P for Parking!

Ed 30s have LC as the instructions on how to use it are in the Edition 30 addendum to the car handbook!  :happy2:

....Then that strongly suggests that all those posts claiming that VW considered and treated instances of LC and also logged them, as 'illegal', were a load of internet forum bollox.

Cheers guys. Any ideas when it was phased in and the big question of course... can it be enabled? Is it ECU controlled or is the DSG mechatronic control module in charge?

Correctamundo RR. 8)

I'd always said from the off that there is no way VW could enforce using LC as a warranty opt out when it's in my manual as a function of the car! :happy2:

Nissan did that for the GT-R though  :surprised:

YEah but I think nissan said to use the launch control, you have to tamper with something and then write elsewhere that to tamper with whatever it is voids the warranty. Therefore you have LC but can't use it.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Launch Control seems such an easy feature to include in a DSG box of tricks.

SMG E46 M3 has it too, but using it also voids the warranty IIRC.

Can it be enabled on a DSG GTi? I see HPA can add it with their DSG controller remap, so I assume that for the time being through them is the only way?

Have you got any web links to info on the HPA DSG upgrade, please?

Yeah, i'll try and dig it out for you. There's a huge thread and links on VW Vortex. At this point in time, the only way to get HPA to work their magic is to disconnect and remove the mechantronic unit and post it to them.

There was talk on them coming over here to do load en masse, but I've not seeing anything concrete. I doubt it'll be long before Revo et al try their own thing or even license the software from HPA.
