RNS510 SDHC Cards
« on: March 04, 2011, 08:23:40 am »
Hi,

Am I right in thinking that if I do not have the fader display pictured below, then I do not have the required firmware to use SDHC cards?

Bought a 16GB one without doing my research fully, so if I can't use it I may as well leave it in the packaging and sell on!

I'd like to have the firmware updated but it seems a lot of hassle (and I don't know if I'd need a new CAN-BUS etc)! I don't suppose anyone knows of someone who could do this for me in the Essex area?

I would say that if you dont have that graphical fader then SDHC wont work only SD cards which are up to 4GB capacity.  If your unit is a good one and wont have issues updating then it would be worthwhile doing as the new firmwares add a lot of functionality and speed the unit up.  There is a risk if the unit has been opened up and had the radio code forcefully removed/reset then you might brick the unit so it will depend on your units providence as to if firmware update is recommended.

As for the gateway you can run modified firmware that negates battery drain issues, I have run two examples of this on my RNS with my F gateway a 1300 and 27xx version both of which supported SDHC and the new full postcode lookup.

Where abouts in Essex are you?  For the next month I will still be living in Kent (Bromley).

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

Thanks guys, I would like the firmware updated but it just seemed like a bit of work involved!

Is removing the unit the only way to tell what revision I have? And can I tell what CAN-BUS version I have without VAG-COM?

The unit was fitted when I bought the car second hand. I am assuming it's been in there since new but it could have been fitted after (the car was owned by VW financial services before me).

I'm in Brentwood. :)

Hmmm well after reading a bit more on the subject, I am tempted to upgrade the firmware and downloading 2760 from the link you posted as I type.

The post you link to does not mention about the unit version. Does it matter what version I have?

Also, how true is "...if your car was registered in June 2007 onwards you *should* have an L Revision gateway or higher"? Mygti.com mentions MY07 cars may experience power drain issues but mine is a MY57 so should it be OK?

My car is a 57 and has a K revision gateway. Best to get it confirmed with VCDS before commiting.

Thanks. I see the link is the modified version made to run on all unit versions and CAN-BUS revisions of K and later. (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=JG148IV6)

I'd be grateful if someone could confirm that as I'd like to try upgrading today if possible!  :happy2:
