Radio code.....where is it?
« on: March 03, 2011, 08:54:48 pm »
Been through all my manuals and can't see a code for the RCD500.

I'm thinking about disconnecting my battery and then taking it for a enthusiastic drive to see if the ECU learns my style of driving.

Problem is I assume the radio will need the code putting back in.

Also the manual pack has the booklet for the RCD300, not 500.

There is a receiver in my windscreen that I thought was for a phone kit....in fact I'm sure it is as it says on a receipt 'remove phone kit'.

Would this work with a sat nav i.e. RNS510 - are these GPS aerials or are phone aerials different?

Thanks

You don't get the Radio code.

Basically when the car is built the code is inputted at the factory. Then it gets stored in the ECU any time the code is then required (say battery disconnected for a few hours for some reason) when the car is turned on the code is pumped back to the RCD by the ECU.

Normally when you buy an RNS off eGay etc you get an Antenna with it that works fine

Oh i forgot to say you can get the code from the dealer but they have to plug it into the VAS Machine to get it.

Cheers, might sell my RCD500 and get a RNS......hence needing the code to sell it on.

If your dealer is quite friendly they can get it in a couple of mins. It just has to be in the car to get it.

Just ask them and explain your getting an RNS510 and need the code from yours as a friend wants to buy it :happy2:

The dealer gave me my radio code for my RCD510 (that came from the factory) over the phone ?, they didn't have the car ??

Cheers everyone.

Disconnected my battery and as someone said, the code must be stored in the ECU so didn't need it.

Will do if I manage to sell it and get a new HU

Dunno then but when I sold my Stream MP3 that comes stock in the Octavia I had to put the unit back in the car and go to the dealer to get the code
