Rear Electric windows retrofit?
« on: February 21, 2011, 10:19:11 pm »
Hi

I've got  a mk5 golf 54 plate 1.9tdi, I currently have manual rear windows and I want to retrofit electric windows, I am wondering what I will need for this? I've been offered the 2 rear electric window motors and the wiring for £60, The only issue is that I don't know what wiring is required and neither is the seller, he has basically said he can give the wiring that connects to the motors?

I am left abit confused so if anyone can help then I can proceed to buy the correct stuff,

thanks

I would suggest that you take the door card off and undo the rubber gaitor that goes from the B-pillar to the door so you can see what wires are going into the door. If you need to fit the wires to the door the outer skin will need to come off.
If the wiring is not present at the B-pillar than you will be looking at a big job to retrofit

Hi

Just an update, I took off the rear door card today (rear, passenger side) and also took off the B trim slightly to see what wires are running through to it, It seems theres a few wires but I couldn't really see anything to connect the motor too, I took some pictures of the inside of the door and also the wires running through the B trim to the door.

if anyone can advise what the best way to do the retrofit then it would be greatly appreciated

Hi
You will need to buy new window regulators for both back doors.
I would suggest that you buy 2 complete back doors if you still intend to go ahead

Thanks for the quick reply mate.

Is the wiring ready then from the ecu to the door or will I need any other wiring as well? Is it just a matter of getting the window regular and motor and the wire that connects the two? sorry mate, i thought that the wiring coming into the door wasn't the right one for the electric windows?

Hi
The pics don't really help, you would do better to take / unclip the rubber gaitor and make a note of the colours and number of wires that are there. I suspect that you will need to add several wires including the CAN wires.

where is your location?

Hi

Just an update, I took out the rubber Gaitor that is connected between the rear passenger door and the car frame where the wires run, The wires that were there are:

5x White wires
1x Brown Wire
1x Brown & White Wire
1x Red & White wire

I'm presuming i'll need the wire that runs from the electric motor to the ecu/fuse box then right?

I would say that your current one would be ok, however it would help if you post the part number.
