new car thoughts - Leon FR TSI
« on: March 07, 2011, 04:14:53 pm »
The wife would like another car (wouldnt we all eh!) anyway, I would like a GTI but as its knocking on the door of £30k this has been ruled out for now, plus thats for me ;)

So she likes Leon's and previously we looked at one and we all know its a cheaper GTI so we had a look.. she wants DSG so we looked at the FR models.  Not too bother about TSI or TDI to be honest.

Anyway, they have offers on at the moment with VAT off the TSI and half vat on the TDI, no TDI on pre-order but there is a TSI which we quite fancy - has to be black or white I have been told..

so -
Leon FR 2.0TSI DSG (211PS)
Black Magic
Xenons, Sat Nav, Front + Rear sensors, Auto Wipers/lights etc, 18" (which are not as nice as they used to :0( ), Winter pack (so everything but leather really)

Saving off list of £3600 ... making the car around £20k brand new.

What do you think ?  Anything I have missed I should be thinking about?  I wondered if petrol was the right choice and it probably would make more sense to go TDI but then its another £1k+ and the 12week wait so might not even get the discount then.

I thought I would never buy new again but its piece of mind and warranty coverage for 3yrs I suppose and an S3 woudl just cost more to run and its not for me ;)

Diesel is going up in price too, will you do enough miles to claw back the extra cost over the petrol?

Also strikes me if that car is already sat waiting, there's room for some more movement - petrol prices will be panicking people and dealers will be sweating.

Hard decision, also Petrol will be more fun of course ;)

I'd go petrol then, diesel will be a false economy. Plus, coupled with DSG, that new engine is very frugal for what it is when pootling along in D.

Check this. Adjust the list prices and it'll work out your break-even vs the diesel version. Very clever...

Just a shame the mk6 is so expensive - if there was a similar offer then I would have opted for one but obviously they dont need the orders.

What about the 1.4 twincharger motors, they're bloody economical and may shave more off list?

Dont do the FR model - which has the good discount and all the bits.
