Hill start with DSG

How do people hill start with DSG? I noticed today even though I was in drive the car still rolls back, is it just a case of holding onto the handbrake ?

Just quickly move your foot from the brake to the accelerator  :happy2:

Is it supposed to roll back ?, mine has auto hill hold so never noticed it ?

Some early DSG boxes didnt have hill hold on them from what I read the other day

Is hill hold something that can be retrofitted with the right controller?  As far as I understand it its just software that holds the brakes on until the clutch is lifted ... DSG would be slightly different I guess...

Works the same principle - applies the brakes until you start moving forward, though only holds a few seconds.

The oem Hill Assist, or whatever it's called, will only work on inclines which aren't steeper than a certain angle. It's not the angle which is measured but more the extra effort required by the engine at idle to move the weight of the car and its load forwards.

i find most hills my car starts to creep as soon as i lift the brake, but on steeper hills it can roll back a little like a delay to when the car starts creeping.  I usually just put my foot on the accelerator quickly but you can keep the handbrake on, lift your foot of the brake till it gets the bite, you should feel it trying to pull away then let handbrake go with no roll back hope that helps

Left foot on the brake all the way for me. It rolls back on some hills and not on others as said in previous posts. It sometimes makes you look a  :booty:

the dsg prevents you from using both pedals at once, so it would only be the same as pressing the accelerator quickly after removing your foot of the brake.


The manual tells you to treat it as a manual so, use the handbrake.

Does it?? how does the launch control work then??
I've never experianced a problem doing it the way I said. Sit on the hill with my left foot on the brake then when I need to pull off press the accelerator then take your foot off the brake :happy2: It may be a lil bit jumpy at first but you soon get the hang of it
