SD card POI on RNS510
« on: March 08, 2011, 04:13:16 pm »
Hi guys for all you RNS510 owners out there Radas on the VWnavi forum and Sam(Branchespark) on the GolfGTI.co.uk forum have put together a fantastic database so you can add POI to an SD card and import them to the RNS510.

Now this only applies to the newest firmware 3800/3810/3890 and the new v7.1 maps, these are still in the Beta stage and a final version will shortly be available. for now you will need to read every thing on the blog that Radas has created, link below.

http://poinspect0r.blogspot.com/

The below downloads are the database and the guide to how to put it all together,
Poi_Inspector v5.2
http://poinspect0r.go.to/download.php

Poi_Inspector Quick Guide for v5.2
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/8035571/POInspect0r/PersonalPOI_Quick_Start_Guide_v1.0.pdf

Sorry I cannot give links to maps due to forum rules, But a link to the firmware is below you need to register.
http://gpsunderground.com/forum/volkswagen-seat-skoda/7034-firmware-rns-510-sw-3890-3896-3898-3894-a.html

You will need to find the maps yourself(Google)

All the above is a marvel to Sam and Radas's knowledge of the SQLite database and to be able to add and delete POI when you want is fantastic, Thanks guys for all your hard work :notworthy:

You will know if the firmware is right has the splash screen when the unit starts up is the new beveled VW logo in black and white.

But to check your firmware and maps you will need either VCDS or if the service menu is open then just press and hold the setup button until you see the service menu.

I've just put a link to the new firmware, register on that website and you may find other stuff.

Cheers

Craig you may have done to place it on a modified dvd but this is putting it onto an sd card and importing the poi,

The firmware and maps for this function has only just been released with the new EDB folder in the structure of the maps and the extra options for Personal POI.

Hi Darren,

This IS to use the SD card JUST to find the POI as you leave them on the SD card in a folder and can use them if and whenever you need to..

I found this site when I first went to the Hampshire meet and didn`t know where it was  :ashamed:

I used this to make a POI on my SD card (of the pub) which I then put into a folder called destinations and then when I loaded up the RNS510 in the car when you`ve got a SD card with a "destinations" folder it has a function to use the folder to input a location.

Here`s some pictures of my RNS510... See if it`s the same type of thing and make sure were not talking apples and oranges...

Works for me

Darren

After reading the info on the site you posted I think it`s different than what I`ve been using as "YOUR" site allows you to update the database on the HDD on the RNS510 and mine was a quick work around the Postcode issue that we USED to have  before V7 Maps...

Seems a good idea to be able to update the HDD database... Good find...

I couldn't think what you was getting at Criag but i know what you mean now, thats the old VW labs way. This is the new RNS510 D version way.

I think VW where getting hounded by there customers to find a way of putting custom poi onto the RNS.

Which is the better 3xxx beta firmware to use 3800 or 3890

I already have the beta 7.1 maps and have created my own sqllite POIs using POI Inspector

Certainly seams easer than having to burn a new DVD everytime

Hi Guys,

I'm running firmware 3810a with 7.2 maps, I have built the new PersonalPOI db and saved it to my SD Card, the RNS 510 sees the new POI and imports it as expected, it lists the POIs in the details section but when I go to MAP and try to add the POI's it has the Speed Cameras POI folder listed but when I select it it doesn't do anything, i.e. I get no POI's to activate??!!
Has nayone else had this issue, or has abyone successfully imported using this method.
I have reset the RNS 510 several times but to no avail.

Many thanks.

OK, so I got it working, I upgraded to the latest firmware 3980 and also set the Map Priority to be '3', not '255' and it worked fine.
Hope this helps anyone else having issues with this.

Cheers, Beast.

Do you know it was the newer firmware or setting the map priority to 3 that made it work, would prefer not having to update the firmware again and reload my music and maps  :sad1:
