Servicing costs...

Hey folks,

VW Have a great offer, £349 for 2 services & 2 MOT's.

Until you call them and they say 'your not eligible' and instead have quoted me £380 for a 48k service inc brake fluid change

Quite what they do in the service for that cost, im not sure, but i'd imagine an oil and filter change is the main part of it.

They don't help themselves do they?

I called my local VW Specialist, who has told me £150 or £100 if I supply the oil & filter (which I will). That will also include brake fluid change, pollen & air filter change, along with the inspections that VW do (walk past the car with a sandwich in their hand pretending to look at things probably  )

Admitedly, it does not include the car wash that VW offer, but im sure the £280 saved could get quite a decent one of those

On a serious note, I did plan on using VW, but that's a ridiculous price, my car doesn't have full VWSH, just FSH, so it's not like I needed to use VW, plus I have a VW Stamp from when I used the local VW to do cambelt, water pump & dsg oil change last August.

Is there anything else I should have done at 48k? VW said I should be on a time and distance schedule or something (every 20k?) but I've changed the oil twice in the last 10k both times with Quantum longlife 3, this time i'll use Castrol SLX 5w30 as per forum recommendation!
I changed the spark plugs myself last August (circa 40k) so they don't need doing.

Could be worth getting the cam follower checked and replaced especially if its in the indy having the service done.

Just about to put my Edition 30 on this and is in for a service in 2 weeks time. By the time you factor in 2 MOT’s I thought it was good value.

Stephen - I was not eligible for this, as apparantly I do 'too many miles' which is 12,000 a year 

So I had to pay for a long distance service or something, which the price above they quoted (£380) was just that, no MOT's nothing.

Rich > I have a Cam Follower brand new in my drawer at home  been there for 3 months but haven't got round to changing it! I might ask the Indy but im kinda restricting him to time as I have to drop it off in the morning and have my car back 3 hours later.

I do need it done at some point though...

Can’t see why not, surely it will run out before the 2 years are up, see the bit I highlighted in red, think I would try a different dealer, just phone around for another one near buy.

Just booked mine in for cambelt, waterpump and a major service at £644. No more spending on the car for a little while after that

It was tongue in cheek mate :)

VW list their 'major service' on their site, and when you read it, all the main things are 'oil and filter change' pollen and air filter, spark plugs.

... They even list 'VW Stamp' as a feature!

Well, that's done! :)

£100 for a 48k service, pollen, air, oil & filter (Genuine filter & Castrol Edge oil supplied by me) + Brake fluid change & check of brakes / all over car etc.

Not bad at all! Better than £380 VW wanted (doubt they'd use Edge oil either).

I will call the dealer though re the coilpack recall and get those changed too.
