ed30 or pirelli
« on: March 13, 2011, 06:03:53 pm »
Hi
At present i have a 05 plate red gti looking to change. Just wonder what peoples thoughts were on the difference between edition 30 or a pirelli and what to go for. The gti is one of the best cars i have had apart from the water pump nothing has gone wrong. Only found  the forum about a month ago missed out there didn't i.

I thought they were the same car! with different interiors and wheels.

Pirelli more sort after and less about so command a higher price, IMO the interior is er well interesting....

Although I only have a dirty diesel so may be talking bullocks

As above, mechanically the same. Different seats, yellow stitching and pirelli alloys are essentially the differences. As above, rare and hence sought after.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

If you a GTi enthusiast, then from a collectors perspective, the Pirelli only sold 210 uk units. Where as the Ed30 sold 2290 Ed30's in the uk.

My advise would be find the Best Spec'd up one with most options, and its a keeper. As has been said Pirelli's are less common, and to find one with the spec you want will be a harder to find.

Both great cars.I love the Pirelli interior personally.  :happy2:

ED30s ran from 2007 (56 reg) to around late 2008.  Pirellis started when ED30s ended, although there is an overlap with registered cars.  ED30s are nicer imho and are available in white, black, silver, red and grey.  Pirellis are available in black, silver and dark blue (shadow blue?) and I think that was it?  The choice is yours and may depend on your budget given Pirellis are generally later registered, or the colour you're after.

I have just bought a 58 plate Pirelli. I looked at both. I really like the Pirelli interior (cut Alcantara in the seat centres to look like  a tyre tread) but the Ed30 is very cool too.

Most Pirelli's seem to come with higher spec, a different smaller colour range and a few things as standard that the ED30 had as optional. I would say nothing in it regarding price, Pirelli's are more expensive simply because they are newer. Find a very late Ed30 and it will be the same or sometimes more than a Pirelli. I don't like the Pirelli alloys, so I changed mine.

They are essentially identical under the yellow or red stitching

I think that the Pirelli had centre armrest and privacy glass as standard.
Bye Bye Edition 30.

Do they both have the 230PS engine then?? I thought the Pirelli was based on the 200ps car?

Nope both have the 230bhp engine. As I said, mechanically identical, with some cosmetic changes only.

spot on there. As most have said the cars are virtually identical. As others have said the Pirellis generally seem to be better spec'd than the ed30s. My choice would be a Black 3DR Pirelli with DSG and xenons to start.

Ive only seen two examples of the Pirelli with good spec, a blue graphite 5 dr on here from a forum member and Rich's silver 3dr. Decent spce'd Pirelli's are very hard to find!  :happy2:

I was after both. I just knew I wanted the PE or ED30 and not standard - largely due to the plastic bumper and the extra 30 hp. I ended up getting a Pirelli simply because it was around, not crazily priced and the dealership wanted to do business. I am really smitten with it. Bought just before Christmas and a joy to behold and drive. I was not mad about the interior early days but it has grown on me so much that I genuinely think it's one of the neatest interiors around (we all love our babies). Anyway, my girlfriend was dead against the tartan of an ed30.

I do think the alloys on the ed30 look a bit better but like the rarity of the pirellis and like all things concerning your own motor the more you look at them and live with them, the more you love them.

A great car and I'd have been fine with an ed30 but really pleased I ended up with mine.
