Tyre pressure sensor
« on: March 10, 2011, 03:08:29 pm »
Is it true there is only 1 tyre sensor on my 2007 gti ? Vw want to replace the rim with the sensor on it as they say it was the wrong rim fitted to the car when it was built ?

The tyre pressure sensor system in the GTI as standard uses the ABS unit/sensor to determine the rolling radius of a tyre so that sounds like a complete load of bull to me!  It is possible on some Audis to have a full tyre pressure monitoring system but you have a sensor on every wheel.  knowing the pressure in one tyre is correct is fairly pointless if the others aren't correct.

I've got a tyre pressure sensor fault, even though all tyre's are running correct pressure  :sad1:

Did you try resetting the sensor by pressing the TPMS button till you hear a bong?

my tyre pressure light came on today, turned out back 2 tyres were low so put some air in and pressed the tyre pressure button till it beeped,

If resetting it does not help. (It will take around 10 miles to recalibrate) then the info on the thread below maybe of help to you as you can monitor it via VCDS.

Models have a standard TPMS sysytem which as already stated run through the ABS sensors, but it was available as an option to have the sensors!! Somehow having one sensor seems like alot of crap to me!! just make sure your tyre pressures are correct and reset it with the TPMS button, i have had a couple of these buttons fail though which will also bring on the light!!

Car go's in to western tomorrow to have new wheel and sensor fitted (they r paying the £500 not had the car long) tyre pressure is fine, its the wrong rim that keeps making the sensor go of ? resetting won't fix it ?

Got the full story from western ! the wheel needs replaced as the 1 sensor on my car is the wrong 1 it's the more expensive sensor, that should be fitted on all wheels but as mines dose not ,they have ordered me a new wheel with the sensor which works of only 1 wheel ? R they fobbing me of with the cheaper option ???

I still really cant understand this, the wheel itself doesnt have a sensor unless you have the full pressure based system and with htat system you would have a sensor in all four wheels its very similar to the system that RedRobin fitted with wireless sensors and you have to have a sensor on every wheel for it to provide any sort of useful information.

The system as standard on the GTI uses the ABS sensors to determine tyre pressure and again would require a sensor on every corner but these have no relevance to the wheel itself and the sensors are part of the hub. Even if your wheel had one of the pressure sensors installed it would be able to interact with the car as there is no receiver so this wouldnt cause issue with your TPMS system and if the wheel was correctly balanced then the ABS based system would be fine!

Have they told you what parts will be changed when they do the work?  Is it the whole alloy wheel?  Or is it part of the hub?

Got a brand new wheel ? The 1 they replaced had a metal looking valve on it the rest all have plastic ones, now they r all plastic ? When I got the car they put 4 new Tyres on the car ?
