Anyone else getting slightly better MPG?
« on: March 14, 2011, 08:55:39 pm »
Just noticed today on a 180ish miles run I got about 2-3mpg better than i have been doing on the same run at about 32mpg. Must be the weather warming up I suppose.

I did a country run of 50 miles each way last thursday, chatting to a work collegue the whole way and just sitting with traffic (40-60mph) straight to 6th and never revving it and at the end of the journey I flicked the computer to see I'd averaged 42.4 mpg.  250bhp car and 42.4 mpg is incredible IMO

Given the fact that I now have to commute a fair distance (for me) each day, I've become more relaxed in my driving. Average mpg is now creeping up past 30mpg.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Yeah! I've noticed a difference last few days, but then the car was serviced last Friday with air filter, oil etc so not sure if that's made the difference (even though I change air filter every 5k).

I don't remember the MPG being as bad when I bought the car last June, as it was over the winter, as im sure in the summer I used to get 32-35mpg on the drive to/from work (even saw 42mpg once in August driving home from a friends about 20 miles away) whereas in the Winter i'd never see 30mpg on that same journey (gentle driving too) So think the slightly warmer weather is definately making a big difference.

23-27mpg 8 mile commute.

It hurts. My gti was not built for such lacklustre journeys.
