Best tyres - F1s ?
« on: March 15, 2011, 04:22:29 pm »
Hey all,

I am about to buy a set of four tyres, i am thinking of Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric.

I used to have eagle f1's gsd3, i hear these are no longer sold and the Asymmetric are the replacement and are better.

I am not keen on the Asymmetric tread pattern as the gsd3 one was great a nice deep V style, the gsd3's were the best tires i have ever used (i owned a nissan 200sx 300bhp)

Anyway i am probably going to buy the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric, does anyone have thoughts or comments pls

I also looked at the 452 Falken, but they dont seem as highly rated

GSD3 are toss, they were discontinued for a good reason.

Michelin Pilot Sport 2s or the newer SuperSports if you're feeling flush.

i didn't like the PS2s, i just replaced with GY Assys on the front and, 1) they don't pickup every little plib in the road, and 2) i think they are gripping better.. only been on a week, like them so far!!

Yes, they've got almost slick levels of sidewall strength, so they're a bit hard on the road. Something to consider maybe if you value comfort or have a low/stiff ride

Grip though, once you're really on it and have got some warmth into them, they'll run away from Assys.

I liked the F1 Asymmetrics they had a "good turn in" as you entered a corner. Very good dry grips levels and very sure footed in the wet too. Very progressive on the limit and they gave good feed back (more progressive than the Vredesteins).
But at times they were pants in the colder weather (I know that they are summer tyres). Out of four tyres I did get a side wall puncture in one tyre and on another the side wall got a buldge on the inner face.
After using only Michelins for the best part of 15 years I never had any tyre defects.
The ride was firmer than it is on the Vredesteins Utrac Sessanta that I have on the fronts at the moment and a little noisier too.

The Asymmetric 2 is also out this month.

im tempted with UNI royal rainsports or Continental sport contact 3.  They are apparently excellent as all rounders

The F1 Ass. ist good - no doubt. But the ''best''??

I'd say ''no''.

I prefer Conti SC3/SC5P, Pirelli P Zero and Michelin PS2/PSS - depending on
personal preferences such as comfort, dry grip, wet grip and so on.

The PS2 is no longer in production if I'm informed correctly but still one of the
best. The PS2 has been pruduced for a long period and was improved several
times. The GY F1 ass. is discontiuing as well and will be replaced by the "F1
asymmetric 2". GY have introduced it now.

the times taking a corner the ps2s under steered, can feel the tyres giving in.. not had that on the GY asys yet. so atm, i rate them over ps2s.

I'll be giving the new f1's a try, had conti 2's which were good allrounders, gsd3's which were greet until 50% worn, ps2's which were fine in the summer if a little twitchy but frightening in the winter. Assymetrics v1 were superb but wore quickly, vreds seem equally as good but are lasting longer. I will try v2 f1's next though as I can get them fitted for £75 a corner:)
