On my 05 model the cambelt cover wad one piece with the engine mount running through the middle so the engine had to come out slightly. To save costs the garage just chopped the cover in half and replaced it with the newer, two piece cover.

The only way removing the driveshafts would help is so the engine could be lifted high enough up that you could work on changeing the belt and water pump all under the bonnet without going from wheel arch to under the bonnet all the time. I think the hassle of takeing the driveshafts off outweighs the benefit!! Each to their own no one is the same and that's why if you ask ten mechanics you will proberly get ten different answers!!
