Nagging feeling - DV?

I've had a nagging feeling something isn't quite there performance wise and would like some confirmation / to run an idea past y'all.

I seem to remember when giving it beans before there would be a good surge around 2.5k as the turbo came on song then pretty constant up to 4k ish then another little pick up.  At the moment it still feels quite strong at the bottom end put foot down action feels pretty flat after that without the second little pick up higher up the rev range.

I'm still on the original DV and am thinking this may be the culprit but I'd get some thoughts in first.  What is throwing some doubt is that there isn't a lot of noise from the DV / turbo so doesn't sound like a boost leak.

Like I say low down in the rev range it feels like there is plenty of pull but not so much higher up.  Is this others experience of a failing / failed DV.  Alas I have no VCDS to log with.

If you are a midget it's easy. he would have to relocate it to the same position as yours for it to be easy.

Mine is a 'normal' GTI so its a bit more complicated.  The biggest issue I have is no driveway to jack it up / get underneath

Just removed mine on Saturday to inspect (relatively easy with the driver side raised and the n/s front wheel off for KO3 cars) as I too thought things didn't quite feel right.  On inspection, the original DV (rev B) has 8 small splits around it and will require changing.  The car is a 05 plate GTI DSG.

I wished I'd taken a punt and bought a rev D replacement in hindsight as I had to refit the old one until I can pick a new one up.  Oh the benefit of hindsight...

I tried to change mine on the K03 turbo and it was a pain with the car on axle stands, ended up getting the rev D fitted with the timing belt change.  

To the OP, it sounds like DV death mate, I would upgrade it anyway.

there probably is a guide somewhere, but if you can get the car up on a good high set of axle stands it can be done DIY.

First as above get the car up, you will get better access if the entire front is jacked up.  Go under the car from the front an remove the engine tray, iirc the GTi is smaller than the vRS, I think I found 6 torx screws.
Once off you can see the DV bolted to the turbo, from here you need to carefully remove the plug connector from the DV, then 3 screws, one of which at the top can be a bit ackward, a long reach socket set is required. 

And bingo, then refit in reverse. 

I got as far the plug which I broke removing so I stopped there, and ended up getting it done with the timing, (didn't actually get charged).

Iwould drop vRSCarl a PM as he has done a DV relocation so will be able to give accurate advice!

As Lee says the GTI engine tray is smaller and I ddint need to remove mine for DV replacement you do ideally need to remove the drive side front wheel to allow access with a second hand.  Then as said slide underneath from the front unclip the plug and remove the 3 hex bolts holding it in place, on mine MY06 there was also a 4th hex bolt not DV related right next to the unit it differs in that it has a washer so avoid spending time removing this and then having to put it back! 

In the end my DV didnt have any rips but I dont think it was clamping and releasing as it should have as it improved power response and the DSG shift from 1st to 2nd gear (which when cruising is just as the turbo is fully spooled 1750-1800rpm)

I'm not speaking from experience but I've heard a lot of people say that the new oem dv is more than capable and in some ways is actually better than the forge one. I'm sure other people will explain in more detail!

The concensus seems to be for the OEM rev D DV rather than the forge item, the forge item is vacum mechanically controlled where as the OEM versions are ECU controlled and seem to give a more consistent action than the mechanical forge item.
