Replacement Rear Light
« on: March 16, 2011, 03:05:52 pm »
Good afternoon everybody,

Just a quick question about the rear lights, I Have a MK5 Edition 30 and my drivers side rear light cluster has got water in it, I have decided to replace it but having trouble find a seller on the internet which sells original part which is the ED 30 tinted version, does anybody know of any good sites?

I have had a look on the bay and have found the seller below, I asume that the Edition 30/R32 use the same tinted rear light? and what about a standard GTI do they have the tinted version or normal ones?

Thanks

Richard

Have you tried taking it off, drying it out with a hairdryer, and popping a Silica sachet in the back?

Hello Alex,

Yeah I have, the water how somehow managed to get itself in the sealed lens at the front of the Cluster, which means the seal as gone somewhere and even if the I got rid of the water somehow, (which I tried Silicon packs and Airing cupboard which didnt work), the inside lens will have water smear marks all over it which I wouldnt be able to clean  :sad1:

Ah thats a bit of a bugger!

Edition 30 and R32 use the same rear lights in any case  :happy2:

Id possibly give your local TPS a call to see what a brand new one from VW direct would cost.

If you just need one of the 4 clusters then you might be better off going to the dealer as they can be bought as individual units and ive seen £30-£40 quoted before VAT depending on if its the inside or outside unit.

If not then the ones you have linked too are a good price for a full set although they look like they might have been washed with a scourer!

The GTI ones are the standard pink colour, only the ED30 and R32 had the darker cherry coloured lights.

5Dr Black GTI, DSG, Leather, Xenons. Retrofitted - Cruise, RNS 510, MFSW, Armrest, Skoda BT, 6cd changer, Monza II's, VW speaker upgrade kit, Lux pack, High-line, new CAN gateway, Polar FIS info display, R32 tinted rear lights, RVC

To Come...NQSBBK, highline CCM.

Thanks for the infromation guys,

I have called my local Motoline VW dealer who has given me a quote of £62 INC VAT, this comes with the bulb holder has well has the bloke said the rear light doesnt come just on its own.
