Top Cat, I can say that a mapped TTRS is MENTAL!! Pov came to meet me at work the other day with a mate and I went out in the TTRS which is just mapped (Revo Stage 1 and Forge Intercooler) and you see the expresion stuck in your seat... I was Glued!!! :driver:

They standard Brakes don't really do the Car justice.. If I had this Car I'd be getting the RS4's  :happy2:! And, I thought that was fast.. Pov's is supposed to be a lot faster so he will defo be needing the bigger set up!! Quicker than a 4.2 R8 EASY  :surprised:! Not sure bou the V10 ??

The v10 will be mince meat once I slap on a new turbo

Like tomcat has said forum trends dont help, and TBH a few of the guys who have changed the brakes have done so simply because they can. Some of the TTRS owners have too much money and can just throw bits at it all willy nilly, whilst the roadster owner and myself are slowly getting the car ready for the ring and for shows!

Discs are the cheap versions like the rs4 2 piece discs, both are not directional and only have the one part number. 370mm disc is just daft in mho

8pots are popular.

There's no doubt theyll need to do something with 500bhp in a slippery shape around 1400kg with loose talk of 600bhp

Why Dave?

Its a little overkill imvho dave, granted the car needed some braking vavva voom over the S3 setup but compare the discs to a hardy 360-365mm R8/RS6/B5 RS4 semi floater made by zimmerman stopping a 2.5 tonne barge and the newer TTRS design seems OTT and apparently somewhat lacking (admittedly anecdotally)

The non directional discs would seem to achilles heal the arrangement, maybe better would of been the R8 Rear setup (356mmx32 / 4 pots 38/42mm pistons) which is  used on the scirroco cup cars in the less homologated pacific rim race series. The TTRS disc is a new design, they go to great lengths to try to keep the weight down and then hog tie one side my making them non directional

Having said that its only track work which seems to find the apparent shortcomings, fine on the road which at the end of the day is what it is.... a road car albeit a very fast one even in std guise

Maybe they wanted some daylight between the S3 setup and the TTRS, but you would have thought going 4 pots would have ticked that box

Note copious use of anecdotally/maybe/apparent words. Having said that if you've just deployed 40k in to a new motor and £1000 for a remap and £6-7000 on a new turbo - if there is doubt ....there is no doubt

The jury is till out on them when mapped or tracking, Ive been asked to look at brakes for two TTRS's now and in both cases the disc size is coming down not up.

Cheers mate.  As I have said, above the S3 variants (which my Roc R had) they are fantastic, and can stand the thing on its nose fairly well.

As said, My car is not mapped, so can't comment on that, however with Revo stage 1 giving figures of 410 Bhp, and torque of 400+Lbsft, i can see the need.

Not me mate.  Certainly does not feel heavy.  Having never been one for all that specification stuff........ Apart from the Startling REVO stats above............

TTRS = 1450kg MK5GTI=?

Some interesting brake weights

brakes per side inc disk/caliper/carrier
tt 312mm 14.5kg
tts 340mm 20kg
s3/r32 345mm 21.4kg
ttrs 370mm 17kg
rs6 390mm 21.5kg
b7 RS4 8pot caliper with ttrs 370 disks 17.5kg

'Bout 80-100kilos more than a manual GTI, Dave.

Seems to me if you've got a 50k car you're not shy of chucking money at to make it faster, you're mad not to go and buy a proper brake kit from the likes of AP/Alcon/other.

In the mean time, I'd have the splash guards off and run some ducting in there. I bet you'd increase performance by a significant amount keeping the discs cooler.
Sideways yo!

Suppose the extra pot is about 80kg then...................Sport button must be made of Lead too!

Yes that is what I thought too.

The sometimes 2wd/4wd is really quite good, but not the same as the real Quattro....................

Mine must have 10kg's of wax on now too!

I also do find it hard not to use the sport button...............

Back to brakes, I think I would try some ducting/pads before spending loads, IF i needed the extra.  Not that I do at the mo.................

My TTRs with a quarter tank and me inside weighs 1518kg. I'm fairly light at about 60-65kg.

Bens ed30 was over 100kg lighter than my TT don't know how much fuel he had in the car, this figure is minus driver.

Dave would getting the rear r8 discs ad sticking them on the back of my TT be beneficial?

I think he meant on the front of the TTRS. also fitting the R8 rears at the back means you need 2 calipers at the back as the handbrake function is seperate on the R8

Hi pov, no but sticking them on your front would be....

The problem with the existing oem provided discs from the RS cars is that they are not tall enough which means wheel spacers, by going two piece I can use the bell I made for the R8 rear conversion onto the 362mm disc plus another 4mm and bury it basically. This means a whole load of different calipers can be used such as the oem stuff (8pots) or for similar money some ap pro5000 calipers anything really that uses a 54mm pad

Once 2 piece people can choose between floating or bolted arrangements

Heard Johnnyc was selling his brakes on his ttrs because he is putting twin turbo's on his motor and the brakes weren't up to the job
