Chassis reinforcement for the track.
« on: April 01, 2011, 12:19:12 pm »
Unfortunatelly I sold my Megabusa so from now on the GTI is going to meet the track often
The question is ,do I have to reinforce the chassis with any strut or arm-bars?
I will use some sticky A048 Yokohama and I dont know if chassis reinforcement is important.

This is what I am thinking of

The chassis is the best part of the the GTI, thats why you dont see many of that type of mod about for it. There is also one that goes in the boot across the rear strut housing but from what people have said on here, the GTi just doesn't need them. You need to be going down the route of taking weight off. S3 hubs and lower arms, lighter brakes and wheels, back seat out, air-con removed. then great suspension and arbs.  :happy2:

Look how solid the subframe is. A length of tubing wont do diddly squat!

Just pointless and a waste of money.
It will be much more efficient to lighten your wallet than making your car any faster.
They don't even use it for race cars.

Ok I got it. :happy2:.

Is there something I must take care of (bearings, top mounts etc) because of the trackday use?

No, mine did nearly 3 years of hard abuse on track and the Ring and never wore anything out. It'll be fine  :happy2:

I'd consider looking into ETKA for the reinforcements Audi did to the A3 Convertible
and VW did to the new Golf Convertible.

Guess most important on a hatch is to stiffen the rear.
Have a look for the removable Neuspeed bars or the Unibrace.
