gt diesel question - help please
« on: March 19, 2011, 08:37:50 pm »
today my oil light came on and i have since topped her up with oil but the light is still on, i have checked the dip stick and there is plenty of oil in there, is there a way to reset the light or should it just go off?

Cheers

Hmm, the oil light comes on with low oil pressure. The fact that you have enough oil in the sump makes me wonder if something else is going on here.
Without traction power is nothing!

Dont take it for a run, tnis wont solve anything, faulty oil sensors are common, so are failed oil pumps. Get it plugged into vagcom before starting the engine again.

Hiya,  What year is you car?  I had a 2002 gt tdi pd 130 and this happened to mine....

Does the engine lag once you hit the 3000 rev point?

My light came on in the bad snow while "rocking" the car to get it out of snow.... it turned out it was a problem with the turbo..... (££££££££)

I was told it was Safe to drive as long as i feathered the gear changes and not do it with my leaded right foot....  If your car "lags" at around 2/3 thou revs this could be your problem...

If the revs are still ok, you will need a full diagnostic to check the codes to see what it is.  A sensor is your best outcome.  It is located at the bottom beside the oil sump i have been told, so maybe you may have knocked it if you have been over a bump or hit a pothole...

Good luck

Can't see it being the turbo, the car runs as sweet as a nut, no lag or anything.  It was just low on oil, so it has been topped up, will check it again tonight and will ring my local(ish) specialist.

Fingers crossed it's not going to cost me a lot.

the light is amber.......

there is no lag whatsoever with the car through any revs, it's driving perfectly.

I think it is the bonnet sensor, where is it positioned and is it an easy fix?

Cheers

Yeah mate, there is nothing wrong with the mechanics of the car at all.

Where is the bonnet sensor/switch?

Does it come up on the dash is the bonnet is open as a warning? like if a door was open?
