as a bit of a newbie wanting to get back into a vw...would you guys recommend a dsg, generally?  from the things you are saying, i am assuming they are reliable so long as the oil is changed regularly?  does the dsg box blip the throttle on downshifts?  thanks.

id do a search on this subject as its like asking if you like marmite.

the throttle is blipped yes.

To be honest I would only ever get my dsg box done at a main dealer,
It's not as simple as a normal transmission fluid change by any means, it does have to be done via 50/52 as the oil in the box has to reach a certain temp, and mainly they take 6L and it HAS to be proper dsg oil, I had mine done whilst having my mechatronics done under warranty
I can't really say it feels better as it's all now different lol, it's nice to get it done tho!

Did you ask them to change the filter at the same time? Normally with a new mechatronics they just change the oil.
Without traction power is nothing!

Yes I did, I had to pay for filter tho but I thought I may as well have it done
