Angel Tuning Remaps....
« on: March 21, 2011, 08:48:16 pm »
I've been looking at the countless threads on here to find the right map at the right price for me and sent a query to Angel Tuning.

I got an email today from them with the quotations and packages they offer. After seeing the price was very good, I looked on here and saw the horror stories about liquidation and support, eBay maps and working out a van.

I emailed them back with my concerns and had a very detailed email about the testing done and the fact the company was sold off though is now under the cartuning.com umbrella.

This is a section of the email you maybe interested in -

You will probably find that most of the good tuning companies will produce similar results as we have all had a lot of experience with these cars and put a lot into development. We are however the only company to go as far as testing mapping at Millbrook Proving ground and are the only company to have been featured in a Sunday Times article :-)

Along with other reassurances I was given I can safely say that once my service has been done and a few pennies saved - I will be going there for my Stage 1 remap.

If you are looking then do have a look at Angel.

I'm actually annoyed at the monopoly that Revo seems to have and the price they charge. I realise you pay for what you get but there must be a point when prices come down, though not with Revo. They maybe the supposed best though this should not mean others aren't worth looking at. (rant over)

Not to sure what you are upset about. If you want to get that map get it, does it make the map better for being tested at Millbrook. it must be one hell of a special map if it can tell were the tarmac is below it.  :rolleye:
At the end of the day it's your money, spend it on what you want.

I was merely saying that you come for advice but the majority only know Revo so dismiss all others as second rate. I was only getting the hump the same way I do about Apple Macs etc (way off topic) massively overpriced for something not that much better.

Being sarcastic about the fact I was impressed with the maps being tested thoroughly on a testing ground, doesn't really help me, but does help prove the point about dismissing other options. Why would testing at Millbrook not be good thing? If you know something that I don't then great, but for us newbies we need options and help to make these choices. Buying the most expensive option is not always the best solution.

I didn't think TC was slating it he's normally more direct than that.

As said it's your money so you choose. There is plenty of opinions on here regarding remaps, some good and some bad.

Hedge is right, i am am normally more direct when in attack mode.  :chicken:  :P
You are welcome to trawl through my many thousands of posts, and i will guarantee you will never  find me ever slating other maps, even though i have Revo in fact on numerous occasions i have encourage people not to give up on superchip maps as after a bit of fooking around they often work well at lower level of tune. The problem with most advice on here or anywhere really, is we all don't like to think we make poor choices, so defend our decision's good or bad, and all clan together to affirm this. Which means its hard to get genuine advice.
With engine mapping their is less room for fook ups, a bad map ( could ) do a lot of damage to your engine, so even though Revo is costly and perhaps over hyped, it's fair to say that with so many members on here with Revo's  code, its safe to presume that it should not damage your engine in anyway if installed properly. for me i would rather pay the extra couple of hundred or so, to not have to worry problems.
But as i said it's your car and your cash, if your happy with your research, go for it and post how you get on.  :drinking:

I once had an Angel Tuning map. Chap came up from wherever, mapped my car and it started slipping the clutch. He unmapped it and went home FOC.

I then fixed the cars clutch and called him again. He came back and mapped it again - this time no probs. All in all, I thought it was good service.

Regarding Revo... I have a Revo car and can't complain there either. Not sure I would have chosen them from a blank canvas (too pricey and seem to deny all wrong if you have problems) but as my car was stage 1 when I bought her, I was delighted to go to stage 2+ on a Revo map.

Perhaps its this kind of more highly strung car that your 'proper' tuners Excel at. Revo will see 10x the number of stage 2 cars than Angel.

And remember this.... I write marketing blurb for a living. If I had taken my remapped Golf on a track day at Millbrook just once, I'd consider that licence to claim it was 'tested at Millbrook proving ground' - which is not to day the product is bad.... just, you know, don't believe everything you read.

Balls on the block from a clean slate, my car would be running GIAC or maybe, just maybe Shark Performance.

Matt

no worries TC......If I was having a moan..I'm more direct as well..

Not seen any GIAC dealers around here though did look at them.....Shark seems to be the same price as Revo.

Think I'll give Angel a go after the service and then do a full review for you all.....

They also do an offer for two cars.....if anyone else wants to jump in as well....

I've heard good and bad about a lot of companies. Revo seem to get a lot of praise but also some unhappy customers on stage 2+ but they do have the monopoly on here.
I'm sure you'll be fine with Angel :)

I moved from a cheaper map to a REVO and realised why they have the reputation they do. I agree with the price but if your car owes you nearly £20k is saving £200 with an unknown risk worth it ? Can you try both and see ?

I think Revo have a 5 hour trial period. I personally wouldn't bother looking for cheap again.......... (But then again I wouldn't move away from apple either)

This is the trouble with 'back of a van' remapping, results cant be checked so very hit and miss. Boost, fuelling, temps etc.... Are rarely datalogged, checked and altered so be as precise as they can or need to be.

To me, you need to offer a product that is as good as you possibly can, otherwise the product is a compromise.
