Is it better to remap an old car or new one?
« on: March 26, 2011, 04:32:26 pm »
I was talking to a mate and he said that he would only remap an old car as that way if something goes wrong its not much money to lose, but I said a newer car would have newer parts more likely to cope after a remap... Any thoughts?

A car can be tuned regardless of age, with a good quality product (map) you shouldnt get any problems that should cause concern.

But a bad quality product can cause major problems, even engine failure but again the vehicles age isn't a factor. I regularly tune cars with under 1k miles on the clock and stuff with 100k+ miles on and as long as you tune each engine based on its own merits then reliability isnt a concern.

The only time I imagine it being a concern would be dealing with a warranty claim and the dealers saying the remap has caused/voided it?

I was due to get my car miles on it.  I was reluctant but still up for it, however i had other things that ideally i could have done that weekend so i bailed and left it.  Im going to wait until about 2.5k now, just so that if there are any niggles they should have reared their head by then.
