RCD500 - Can a 3.5mm Audio jack be fitted to it?
« on: March 22, 2011, 06:51:46 pm »
Good evening fellow Vdubbers,

I have the basic RCD500 6-CD changer in my Edition 30 and while I save up for a new RNS510 (or Remap  ) is there a way of fitting a 3.5mm audio jack to it using the connections at the back?

Ive had a search on the forum and havent found anything about it.

Thanks

Richard

I had one on my old MK5 and AFAIK the 3.5mm jack input uses the CD changer socket part of the block connector on the rear of the stereo. Yours will be connected up to you Changer so i dont think it will be possible.

Oh shizzle  :sad1: I thought I was being clever but no wonder nobody tired it before it can't be done with the CD changer headunit

Ohh wait a minute... if yours has the 6 stack in built? You might be able to do it still as the CD changer slot will be empty!

Yeah I have the headunit which has the in-built 6 CD changer, how would I be able to wire in the audio jack to the ports at the back then?

Than should do the trick!

Why thank you!

So it's simple plug and play using the spare port on the back of the headunit and fed the audio jack to the ash tray area  :happy2:

Thanks Rich, as always full of useful information! :notworthy:

Yes in theory! IF.... IF the CD changer slot is free, then it should be as easy as that!

I have had a quick look on Ebay and found a picture from the back of the RCD500 6CD changer which shows which sockets are not used (sort off) are they the correct ones for the Aux input to work with?
