Can you uprate the front disc/calipers only?
« on: March 24, 2011, 05:26:25 pm »
Hi,

Can you put say, R32 Calipers, grooved discs and uprated pads on the front only? Without haviung to uprate the rear calipers? Would probably do the brake lines front and rear and put uprated discs pads on rear at same time? just use the ed30 rear calipers on the rear...?

Anyone?

yes, thats what prob 90% of the guys have done with the R32 upgrade.  Its only a select few who uprated the rears as well

Yes I had Cupra R fronts on my Ed30.

Essentially the Cupra R uses the same setup as the rears are the same.

does this not cause uneven braking if you only upgrade the front brakes? why do people not do the back as well?

Depends what you mean uneven? It will alter the brake bias towards the front, but it will still feel very planted when braking!

It tends to be a little snatchy and drops the front a bit but nothing dangerous or untoward.

It's a long complicated story, but basically it depends on how big a upgrade you go for. If it's just the R32 set up, then this wont throw out the balance, especially if it's just for fast road use, you probably wont even notice. If you go for a big kit then it can throw the balance out when braking hard for corners, but some people prefer this in a front wheel drive car.  :happy2:
