Selling a car?
« on: March 25, 2011, 06:06:31 pm »
Hi folks!

Got someone coming to view my car with intent to buy it  and was wondering if anyone has any tips to avoid me getting fleeced?

What's the best way to take payment noted that it will be on Saturday?

Cheers

Max

Cash is king if he's really interested or bankers/building society cheque but that would then be next week the buyer would then need to provide ID passport etc to get funds.... chaps is another option as a direct transfer... But the best advice-- trust your gut feelings  :happy2:

If you take cash, take it to the bank with him so they can verify it's all real. Some banks are open on a Saturday.

The problem with bank transfers etc is that it goes into your account instantly but you can't touch the money. It takes a day or two to process and in that time the person can cancel the transfer leaving you without your car and money! Most banks will not tell you about the other person being able to cancel unless you specifically ask them. Do not get stung!! Cash - and take it to the bank with the buyer. It is not worth risking it.
