Was there a VW in your life as a kid?
« on: March 26, 2011, 05:47:12 pm »
I was just wondering how many on here got into the VW scene through their parents having one when you were younger? Im sure this really does influence your car buying choices when you grow up , just wondered if anyone else concurs? Pics of your families old VWs would be great too , shame I have none of my Dads Mk1 Polo 'N' in Riyad Yellow SKS 325T , bought new from Peter Spellman VW-Audi-NSU of Spittal , Berwick upon Tweed.

Ours was exactly like this , albeit RHD , and this looks like an LS^^^

2008 Golf GTI 3 Door - Candy White , 18" Monza II's , Leather , Armrest , Rear Park sensors. (current car)

I would love to say my passion for dubs started with my parents influence but alas it started with me. My parents cars were more Ford Cortinas, Austin Minis, Vauxhall Cavaliers, etc! :scared:

My dad use to change cars on what seemed a weekly basis.
As he would buy a cheapy do it up and sell it.
But when he got his first Audi 100 type 43 he kept that car as his daily but still kept buying others to do up.
This was the first time since him been single and in his  20s with lotus cortinas and GTs he did that.
He later changed the type 43 after a couple of years to a type 44 Audi 100 CD which he kept from 1987 to 1997.
So yes i grew up round Audi/VWs
Ex mk5 GTI owner, moved to a mk6 in 2010.

I must be one of the very few who had no exposure to VWs as a kid.

The first that made an impact on me was when I was in my late 'teens. It was a black mk4 GTI, tinted windows, smoked lights, chrome rims, lowered. Was  8)

Was going to buy one on the basis of that car, until I saw the MK5. Fell in love and that was that.

The GTI isn't just a machine. It's very much a living, breathing thing.

Whoa! Mum's first car was a Riyad yellow Polo too! YTB 492T

Dad always had VWs - Beetles, Campers etc, still has a few now and is doing a resto on a '72 911T (whish is the same family as VW I guess).

My first car was a '67 ragtop 1500. I do like Dubs, but I'm not in that fanatical state of not appreciating anything else that some people get themselves into... I love all sorts of weird shiz.
Sideways yo!

I think my parents car history went someting like triumph (dolomite?) > 2 No Ford Sierras, one of which was quite sporty but much more unreliable than anything else > 2 vauxhall cavaliers (the later one I learned to drive in) > vauxhall vectra.

By this time I had bought my first car, a golf mk4 GTI.

Their next car was a passat on the back of how impressed they were with the golf  :drinking:

As a family we've had VWs since 1994 when we got a 1.1 mk2 facelift polo in bright green... that was the car i drove when i passed my test. (the headgasket went on it shortly after i passed.... no idea why  :innocent: )
