Part number for metal gearknob clip?
«
on:

Looking to swap them over, but can't see a way of getting the existing clip off in one piece, so I can replace it once the gearknob's been swapped.
Anyone got a part number for this, so I can get a new one in advance?
Thanks.

Do you mean the clip that holds the actual knob onto the stalk ?, if so it requires a special tool to put these clips back on, and of course a new clip, most people just use a cable tie.

Stainless cable ties do a better job than the original

Thanks guys. Yes it is the clip that holds the base of the knob to the shaft
No wonder I have trouble trying to remove it if you need special tools! It doesn't seem to have a join in it, so couldn't see how to expand it enough without ruining it.

You can remove it with a screwdriver, though try not to damage it. You can close it back up with a pair of wire cutters

Before you remove the clip have you tried pulling the knob off first
?. When i changed mine on the last GTI just gave it a good pull & it came off
. Worth trying first.

Cheers guys. I did try to remove it without touching the clip, but it wasn't for budging!
Have now tracked down a suitable clip I had lying about, so that should do the trick.
Thanks all,
Steve
