iPod/iPhone connection advise please.

Hey,

I recently purchased an armrest for my car and I'm looking to connect my iPhone to the headunit, I've seen the original vw armrest inserts that replace the cd changer and I'm wondering if this is the best option? I currently don't have any cd changer wiring etc so will also need that but I am also considering any other options.

I've currently got the standard RCD300 installed but I am looking to upgrade to a RNS 510 but i'm not likely to get that for a good few months, I'm looking to basically have a good connection and preferably something that will charge my iPhone as well and fit in the armrest if possible. I know the VW Kit sounds like the best option but I've read that it doesn't charge the iPhone, only the standard iPods, I was looking into a Dension 300 gateway or a Media-In but not too sure how they work?

The MDI is a fine investment, charges my iphone4 and you can also control it using the RNS510.
